GEC Watch: Bigg Boss finale propels Colors on top in Urban and U+R markets; Star Utsav leads Rural

Top three shows in Urban markets are from Colors with Bigg Boss as the second most watched show. The last two T20 matches on DD National lead the chart in the combined (U+R) and Rural markets

Colors is back at the No. 1 in the urban and combined (U+R) markets on the back of Naagin Season 2, Bigg Boss and Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki. These three shows from Colors held top-3 positions in Urban markets. The last two T20 matches on DD National stood at No. 1 and No. 2 positions in the combined (U+R) and rural markets but they could not help DD National find a place in top-10.

In the rural markets, Star Utsav has dethroned Rishtey from the top.

Top channels in U+R markets

Colors took lead to reach the No. 1 spot with 643.963 million Impressions, while Star Plus slipped to No. 2 position with 614.349 million Impressions followed by Zee TV at No. 3 with 436.860 million Impressions.

Star Utsav which garnered 406.468 million Impressions. At No. 5, we had Rishtey, the FTA from Viacom18 clocking 404.313 million Impressions.

Sony Entertainment Television slipped to No. 6 with 378.383 million Impressions. Zee Anmol climbed to No. 7 with 373.498 million Impressions, followed by Life OK that stayed at its No. 8 position with 367.714 million Impressions. Sony SAB stood at No. 9 with 338.203 million Impressions and DD National trailed at No. 10 with 336.816 million Impressions, despite two of the matched from the India-England series becoming the most watched properties on the genre in Week 5.

Top programmes in U+R markets

The T20 series between India and England – L/T PAYTM-17 3 T20 IND/ENG has grabbed the No. 1 spot in the U+R markets with 17.563 million Impressions, continuing its last week’s record. On No. 2 also, another match between India and England from the same series - L/T PAYTM-17 2 T20 IND/ENG clocked 17.215 million Impressions. At No. 3, Naagin Season 2 on Colors gained 11.396 million Impressions, Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya that got 10.040 million Impressions. Star Plus Saath Nibhaana Saathiya trailed with 8.497 million Impressions.

Top channels in Urban markets

Colors moved up the ladder to lead the Hindi GEC flock in the urban markets with 445.372 million Impressions, pushing Star Plus to become the No. 2 with 434.300 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stayed put at No. 3, clocking a total of 263.996 million Impressions. Zee TV too hooked on to the No. 4 spot with 249.114 million Impressions, followed by Sony SAB with 248.034 million Impressions. Life OK stood at No. 6 with 240.115 million Impressions. DD National stood at No. 7 with 134.626 million Impressions. &TV was at No. 8 with 133.941 million Impressions. Rishtey stood at No. 9 with 105.202 million Impressions. Star Utsav stood at No. 10 with 104.061 million Impressions.

Top programmes in Urban markets

As per select data {HSM (Urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Colors’ Naagin Season 2 led the top programmes list with 7.416 million Impressions followed by the finale weekend of Colors’ Bigg Boss (Sat-Sun) with 6.183 million Impression. Colors’ Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki stood at No. 3 with 5.987 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 4 with 5.937 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television’s The Kapil Sharma Show slipped to No. 5 with 5.842 million Impressions.

Top channels in Rural markets

In week 5, Star Utsav gained eyeballs as it took lead with 302.407 million Impressions while Rishtey lost viewership to slip to No. 2 with 299.111 million Impressions. Zee Anmol grabbed the third spot with 284.423 million Impressions. At No. 4, Sony Pal garnered 225.613 million Impressions. DD National stood at No. 5 with 202.191 million Impressions. Colors stood at No. 6 with 198.591 million Impressions. At No. 7, Zee TV garnered 187.746 million Impressions while Star Plus slipped a position to No. 8 as it garnered 180.049 million Impressions. At No. 9, Life OK garnered 127.598 million Impressions while Big Magic trailed at No. 10 with 114.488 million Impressions.

Star Utsav’s Saath Nibhaana Saathiya stood at No. 4 with 4.846 million Impressions and Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 5 with 4.104 million Impressions.
