GEC Watch: Star Screen Awards propels Star Plus to No. 1

Colors slips to No. 2 in U+R, while Sony climbed a position to grab No. 5. In Rural, Rishtey remained on top, while Star Plus grabbed the top spot in Urban

In Week 1 data of 2017 released by BARC India (December 31 to January 6), the channel rankings saw a lot of shuffling. Within the U+R markets and Urban, the telecast of Star Screen Awards on Star Plus on New Year night did wonders for the channel, helping it climb back to the No. 1 position in the two markets.

Meanwhile, the other markets witnessed a lot of shuffling in the rankings. Sony Entertainment Television gained numbers to go up in the ranking by one spot in both U+R and Rural.

Top channels in U+R markets

Star Plus regained the top position with 698.269 million Impressions, followed by Colors which slipped to No. 2 with 687.031 million Impressions. Rishtey stayed at No. 3 by recording 498.305 million Impressions. Zee TV was at No. 4 with 422.904 million Impressions followed by Sony Entertainment Television which earned 418.710 million Impressions. Sony Pal slipped to No. 6 with 371.671 million Impressions. Sony SAB also gained numbers to rank No. 7 with 365.956 million Impressions. Life OK got the 8th spot by garnering 350.764 million Impressions, while Zee Anmol slipped two spots to No. 9 with 347.450 million Impressions. Staying put at No. 10 was Star Utsav with 338.470 million Impressions.

Top programmes in U+R markets

Colors’ Naagin Season 2 topped the list with 12.896 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stayed at No. 2 with 10.757 million Impressions, while Naagin on Rishtey stood at No. 3 with a marginal gap, garnering 9.834 million Impressions. Star Screen Awards telecast on Star Plus on the New Year night garnered 9.683 million Impressions to grab the fourth spot. Colors’ other fiction property, Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, with 9.628 million Impressions was at No. 10.

Top channels in Urban markets

Star Plus gained eyeballs to take the No. 1 spot with 490.153 million Impressions. Colors slipped to No. 2 with 470.281 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stayed put at No. 3, clocking a total of 291.305 million Impressions, followed by its sister channel Sony SAB which garnered 265.612 million Impressions. Zee TV stood at No. 5 with 254.624 million Impressions. Life OK stood at No. 6 with 229.352 million Impressions. &TV was at No. 7 with 159.810 million Impressions. Rishtey stood at No. 8 with 121.842 million Impressions. Sony Pal and Star Utsav trailed at No. 9 and No. 10 with 108.868 million Impressions and 84.410 million Impressions, respectively.

Top programmes in Urban markets

As per select data {HSM (Urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Colors’ Naagin Season 2 retained the No. 1 spot with 7.986 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Star Screen Awards 2017 stood at No. 2 garnering 7.231 million Impressions followed by Colors’ Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki with 6.613 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 4 with 6.532 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Saath Nibhaana Saathiya trailed at No. 5 with 6.007 million Impressions.

Top channels in Rural markets

Rishtey remained at No. 1 with 376.463 million Impressions. Zee Anmol too gained eyeballs to climb to No. 2 with 266.803 million Impressions while Sony Pal climbed to No. 3 with 262.803 million Impressions. Star Utsav stood at No. 4 with 254.060 million Impressions. Colors took the 5th position with 216.750 million Impressions followed by Star Plus with 208.116 million Impressions. Zee TV stood at No. 7 with 168.281 million Impressions. Big Magic at No. 8 gained 131.816 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television climbed one spot to come at No. 9 and Life OK at No. 10 garnered 127.404 million Impressions and 121.412 million Impressions, respectively.

Top programmes in Rural markets

As per select data {HSM (Urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Rishtey’s Naagin stood at No. 1 with 8.016 million Impressions while Color’s Naagin Season 2 followed with 4.911 million Impressions. Sony Pal’s Balveer was at No. 3 with 4.332 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya and Rishtey’s Naagin (6PM-7PM) stood at No. 4 and No. 5 with 4.225 million Impressions and 4.111 million Impressions, respectively.
