GEC Watch: Star Plus leads Urban and U+R markets; Rishtey rules Rural

Star Plus maintains the lead despite a no-show in top-5 programmes across markets. India vs England ODI series brings DD National in top-10 list

In Week 3 (January 14-20) of BARC India data, DD National made it to the top channels and programmes list on the back of the India vs England One day International (ODI) series.

The match also has made it to the top programmes in combined and rural markets, while the urban programmes list was dominated by the usual general entertainment programmes.

The top two GECs - Star Plus and Colors – witnessed sharp decline in viewership this week where in Star Plus managed to lead the chart in Urban and U+R markets despite a no-show in top-5 programmes. Rishtey continued its leadership in rural market.

Top channels in U+R markets

Despite drop in numbers, Star Plus returned back to No. 1 position with 632.223 million Impressions. Colors slipped to No. 2 with 627.250 million Impressions. Rishtey added more viewership this week and strengthened its position at No. 3 by recording 466.852 million Impressions. Zee TV was at No. 4 with 425.594 million Impressions followed by Star Utsav which garnered 408.297 million Impressions.

Interestingly DD National took the sixth position with 405.113 million Impressions on the back of the India vs England ODI that was held during the period. Sony Entertainment Television slipped two positions to No. 7 as it garnered 392.555 million Impressions. Sony Pal stood at No. 8 with 357.654 million Impressions.  Life OK stood at No. 9 with 341.006 million Impressions and Sony SAB trailed at No. 10 with 338.248 million Impressions.

Top programmes in U+R markets

Colors’ Naagin Season 2 stayed at the top of the list with 11.522 million Impressions, followed by DD National’s L/T Paytm-17 2 ODI Ind/Eng which garnered 10.947 million Impressions. Rishtey’s Naagin slipped to the third position, garnering 10.045 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 4 with 9.996 million Impressions. Colors’ Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki stood at No. 5 with 9.664 million Impressions.

Top channels in Urban markets

Star Plus retained urban lead with 444.717 million Impressions followed by Colors with 432.653 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stayed put at No. 3, clocking a total of 286.041 million Impressions. Zee TV jumped one position up to No. 4 with 252.311 million Impressions, followed by Sony SAB with 250.603 million Impressions.

Life OK stood at No. 6 with 231.423 million Impressions. DD National stood at No. 7 with 150.594 million Impressions. &TV was at No. 8 with 148.186 million Impressions. Rishtey stood at No. 9 with 119.477 million Impressions. Sony Pal stood at No. 10 with 108.405 million Impressions.

Top programmes in Urban markets

As per select data {HSM (Urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Colors’ Naagin Season 2 led the top programmes list with 7.410 million Impressions followed by the channel’s Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki with 6.666 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television’s The Kapil Sharma Show stood at No. 3 with 6.444 million Impressions. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 4 with 6.169 million Impressions. Sony SAB’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah stood at No. 5 with 5.982 million Impressions.

Top channels in Rural markets

Rishtey remained at No. 1 with 347.374 million Impressions. Star Utsav too gained eyeballs to climb to No. 2 with 304.782 million Impressions while DD National climbed to No. 3 with 254.519 million Impressions. Zee Anmol stood at No. 4 with 249.776 million Impressions. Sony Pal took the fifth position with 249.249 million Impressions followed by Colors with 194.597 million Impressions.

Star Plus stood at No. 7 with 187.506 million Impressions. Zee TV at No. 8 gained 173.283 million Impressions. At No. 9 & 10, Big Magic and Life OK garnered 122.425 million Impressions and 109.584 million Impressions, respectively.

Top programmes in Rural markets

As per select data {HSM (Urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Rishtey’s Naagin stood at No. 1 with 7.819 million Impressions while DD National’s L/T Paytm-17 2 ODI Ind/Eng followed with 7.691 million Impressions. DD National’s L/T Paytm-17 1 ODI Ind/Eng was at No. 3 with 6.516 million Impressions. Rishtey’s Udaan and Colors’ Naagin Season 2 (6PM-7PM) stood at No. 4 and No. 5 with 4.191 million Impressions and 4.112 million Impressions, respectively.
