GEC Watch: Star Plus stays on top in Urban and U+R; Rishtey leads Rural

Sony’s Super Dancer has grabbed the No. 1 spot in the urban markets, displacing Naagin Season 2, while the dance reality show stood at No. 2 in rural markets. Sony SAB’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah too raised its numbers significantly

After quite a long time, Sony Entertainment Television has been able to push its programme into the top spot. The finale episode of the dance reality show Super Dancer has grabbed the top spot in urban markets and second spot in the combined urban + rural markets. On the back of this, the channel has gained significant eyeballs in Week 51 of 2016 (December 17 to December 23).

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah on Sony SAB has entered the top shows’ list in urban markets while the show also appeared in the top shows’ list in rural market for its airings on Sony Pal.

Other than this, barring a few shuffles, the pecking order of the Hindi GEC genre within the three markets has remained more or less the same. Colors’ Naagin Season 2 has finally moved down from its top spot in urban markets, the first time since its launch on October 8, 2016.

Top Channels in U+R markets

In combined urban and rural markets, Star Plus retained its top position with 647.573 million Impressions, closely followed by Colors at No. 2 with 629.203 million Impressions. Zee TV was at No. 3 with 467.749 million Impressions followed by Sony Entertainment Television which held its No. 4 rank with 455.376 million Impressions, gaining significant viewership this week. Rishtey remained at No. 5 with a small increase in viewership at 434.367 million Impressions. Sony Pal and Life OK swapped positions. Sony Pal at No. 6 garnered 414.077 million Impressions, while Life OK slipped one spot to No. 7 with 382.480 million Impressions. Staying put at its No. 8 position, Zee Anmol recorded 376.086 million Impressions, followed by Sony SAB and Star Utsav at the trailing end at No. 9 and 10 with 353.853 million Impressions and 341.745 million Impressions, respectively.

Top Programmes in U+R markets

Colors’ Naagin Season 2 topped the list with 13.893 million Impressions. At No. 2 was Sony Entertainment Television’s dance reality show Super Dancer which had its finale episode on December 17. The talent hunt show garnered 13.538 million Impressions in Week 51. Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya remained at No. 3 with 11.435 million Impressions, while Naagin on Rishtey slipped by two spots to come at No. 4 with 10.928 million Impressions, despite marginal rise in numbers. Star Plus’ Saath Nibhaana Saathiya was at the trailing end with 9.001 million Impressions.

Top Channels in Urban markets

Star Plus retained its lead with 445.233 million Impressions, while Colors stood at No. 2 with 432.787 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stood at No. 3 with 324.590 million Impressions, followed by Zee TV with 277.360 million Impressions. Sony SAB stood at No. 5 with 263.705 million Impressions. Life OK slipped to No. 6 with 256.579 million Impressions. &TV was at No. 7 with 149.443 million Impressions. Sony Pal stood at No. 8 with 113.638 million Impressions. Rishtey and Zee Anmol stood at No. 9 and No. 10 with 107.851 million Impressions and 92.549 million Impressions, respectively.

Top Programmes in Urban markets

As per select data {HSM (Urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Sony Entertainment Television’s Super Dancer grabbed the top slot with 9.066 million Impressions. Colors’ Naagin Season 2 slipped to second position with 8.753 million Impressions followed by Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya which stood at No. 3 with 7.013 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television’s The Kapil Sharma Show stood at No. 4 with 6.515 million Impressions. Sony SAB’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah stood at No. 5 garnering 6.437 million Impressions.

Top Channels in Rural markets

Rishtey substantially gained and retained the No. 1 position with 326.517 million Impressions. Sony Pal too gained eyeballs as it rose to No. 2 with 300440 million Impressions while Zee Anmol slipped to No. 3 with 283.537 million Impressions. Star Utsav stood at No. 4 with 255.580 million Impressions. Star Plus took the fifth position with 202.341 million Impressions followed by Colors with 196.415 million Impressions. Zee TV stood at No. 7 with 190.390 million Impressions. Big Magic rose to No. 8 with 135.358 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television stood at No. 9 with 130.786 million Impressions and Life OK slipped to No. 10 with 125.901 million Impressions.

Top Programmes in Rural markets

As per BARC data, {HSM (Rural): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Rishtey’s Naagin retained its lead as the most watched programme in rural markets by garnering 8.704 million Impressions. Sony Pal’s Balveer stood at No. 2 with 5.698 million Impressions. Colors’ Naagin Season 2 stood at No. 3 with 5.140 million Impressions. Sony Pal’s Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and Zee Anmol’s Jodha Akbar stood at No. 4 and No. 5 with 4.954 million Impressions and 4.623 million Impressions respectively.
