GEC Watch: Diwali bonanza for Colors with No. 1 spot in U+R

Star Plus has slipped to the second position in the urban and U+R markets as Colors gains significant viewership on the back of its fiction properties, Shakti, Naagin 2 and the non-fiction property Bigg Boss 10

Colors, the Hindi GEC from Viacom 18 has grabbed the top spot in the GEC flock in the urban and U+R combined markets, in Week 42 (October 15 to October 21)  of 2016. The channel has gained significantly large viewership on the back of its popular fiction properties, Shakti and Naagin 2 which have listed themselves in the top five most watched shows’ list. The channel also launched the tenth season its biggest reality property Bigg Boss on October 16, which also must have attracted a lot of unique and new eyeballs.

Meanwhile, Star Plus has slipped to No. 2 spot in the Urban and Urban+Rural markets. All the three markets has witnessed a lot of shuffling in the rankings. Even in the top programmes list, while Zee Anmol’s Naag Kanya has entered the list in the rural market, Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya has re-entered in the urban and U+R markets. Sony Entertainment Television has again lost significant numbers and ranking by one position in the U+R markets.

Top Channels in U+R markets

In U+R markets, Colors has toppled over Star Plus to grab the No. 1 spot with 732.163 million Impressions, while Star Plus has garnered 701.043 million Impressions at No. 2. Zee Anmol has stayed at No. 3 with 507.053 million Impressions, followed by Zee TV which has clocked 504.535 million Impressions. Sony Pal, the second GEC from Sony Pictures Networks has grabbed the No. 5 spot with 417.175 million Impressions, while Star Utsav, Star India’s FTA channel has got 406.483 million Impressions to be on No. 6. Life OK slipped to No. 7 with 405.758 million Impressions. Sony Entertainment Television too slipped one position to take the No. 8 slot with 401.263 million Impressions. Sony SAB and Rishtey stood at No. 9 and 10 with 389.478 million Impressions and 367.966 million Impressions, respectively.

Top Programmes in U+R markets

In combined U+R markets, the debut episode of Colors’ Naagin Season 2 continued to be on the top slot for its second week after launch, garnering 13.187 million Impressions. Another show from Colors, Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, too continued to stay No. 2 with 12.219 million Impressions. At No. 3, Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya got 11.069 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Ye Hai Mohabbatein got 10.595 million Impressions at No. 4, followed by the channel’s Saath Nibhaana Saathiya (9.721 million Impressions).

Top Channels in Urban markets

Colors climbed to the top spot in the Urban market too, with 495.475 million Impressions, while Star Plus slipped to No. 2 with 466.433 million Impressions. Zee TV gained eyeballs to take the No. 3 spot with 284.902 million Impressions, followed by Sony Entertainment Television which slipped by one position to become No. 4 with 281.474 million Impressions. Sony SAB was ranked No. 5 with 279.240 million Impressions. Next, at No. 6, Life Ok clocked 264.292 million Impressions. &TV stayed at No. 7 with 139.331 million Impressions. Zee Anmol is at No. 8 with 116.217 million Impressions followed by Sony Pal with 104.643 million Impressions. Star Utsav trails at No. 10 with 91.090 million Impressions.

Top Programmes in Urban markets

As per select data {HSM (Urban): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, the Colors’ Naagin Season 2 has again grabbed the top spot with 8.272 million Impressions, followed by the channel’s Shakti – Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki which clocked 8.248 million Impressions. Star Plus’ Ye Hai Mohabbatein has got No. 3 position with 6.645 million Impressions, followed by Zee TV’s Kumkum Bhagya stood at No. 4 with 6.555 million Impressions. Colors’ Udaan got 6.244 million Impressions at the trailing end.

Top Channels in Rural markets

Zee Anmol with 390.836 million Impressions has grabbed the top spot, while Star Utsav, at No. 2, clocked 315.393 million Impressions. Sony Pal slipped to No. 3 with 312.533 million Impressions and Rishtey at No. 4 got 286.698 million Impressions. Colors climbed up to the No. 5 spot with 236.688 million Impressions, followed by Star Plus with 234.610 million Impressions. Zee TV and Big Magic are at No. 7 and 8 with 219.633 million Impressions and 146.810 million Impressions, respectively. Life Ok and Sony Entertainment Television trail with 141.466 million Impressions and 119.789 million Impressions.

Top Programmes in Rural markets

As per BARC data, {HSM (Rural): NCCS All: Prime Time (1800 – 2330 hrs): 4+ Individuals}, Rishtey’s Naagin continued to lead with 6.529 million Impressions while Zee Anmol’s Naag Kanya entered the list at No. 2 with 6.336 million Impressions. STAR Utsav’s Saath Nibhaana Saathiya followed at No. 3 with 6.219 million Impressions. Zee Anmol’s Jodha Akbar is at No. 4 with 5.611 million Impressions, followed by the channel’s another programme Kasam Hai Tujhe Aa Bhi Jaa at No. 5 with 5.298 million Impressions.
