Teri Meri Jodi, a co-production show with Pakistan-based Geo TV that was slated to launch on October 3 at 10.30 pm on Zee's Zindagi channel, has been cancelled.
Subhash Chandra, Chairman of Essel Group and former chairman of Zee, said at a press conference in Delhi on September 26, “It's an unfortunate decision we had to take to stop all programming from Pakistan. We at Zee have tried for the past 24 years to bridge the gap. However, the one-way street is not working. We took a decision in our hearts right after the Uri attack. Our team met and agreed for the same. We at Zindagi want to respect the sentiments of our viewers, and of our country, and that is why we had to take this step.”
The channel will pull off air three of its ongoing Pakistani shows. However, the plan to remove these shows from the airtime was announced sometime back. The shows are seeing their organic end and not being stopped midway.
“Zindagi has been the reason for the rise of a number of stars from Pakistan but when we requested them to at least condemn the attacks without naming their country, none of them came forward,” he added.
The channel will launch five other shows on the channel while maintaining the popular Turkish show Fatmagul. The new shows will be Agar Tum Sath Ho (Indian content 7 pm), Little Lord (Turkish drama 7.30 pm), TV Ke Uss Paar (Indian sitcom 8.30 pm), Fatmagul (Turkish drama 9 pm), Feriha Season two and Khwaabon Ki Zamin Par (Indian drama 10 pm).
As per the network, Zindagi, over the last 27 weeks, has maintained its position as the No. 1 Premium Entertainment Channel with 710 average GTVTs. (Source: BARC Alpha Club ratings; TG: NCCS A1, 6 Metros, Period: WK5' To WK 32'2016, AV GTVTs).
Sunil Buch, Chief Business Officer, ZEEL said, “Zindagi was launched with the promise of bringing the best shows from across the world to Indian television screens.
