Rio Olympics garners 210.9 million impressions in first week

Spread across nine channels, the global sporting event garnered 210.9 million Impressions. Swimming and archery witnessed 30. 8 million and 24.2 million Impressions, respectively

Ever since Rio Olympics 2016 went on air on Star Sports 1, 2, 3, 4 (SD+HD) and Doordarshan on August 6, 2016 in India, social media has just been talking about the global event. Television has also seen a good amount of impressions in India across nine channels.

According to data shared by BARC India, the telecast across nine channels garnered 210.9 million Impressions in its first week itself (August 6-12). The opening ceremony alone had half a million Impressions across channels.

According to BARC data, Impressions for the top 10 sports are as follows:

Swimming garnered as many as 30.8 million Impressions, while archery witnessed 24.2 million Impressions, followed by badminton with 9.3 million Impressions. The men’s hockey match between India and Canada garnered 9.1 million Impressions, while the boxing match had close to 9.0 million Impressions.

Athletics at Rio Olympics 2016 witnessed 7.9 million Impressions, followed by gymnastics with 7.2 million Impressions. Shooting garnered as many as 6.9 million Impressions. The women’s hockey match between Japan and India witnessed 5.9 million Impressions and the men’s hockey match between India and Ireland witnessed 5.7 million Impressions.
