The first-ever NDTV Unicorn Start-Up Awards 2016, in association with Vestige and Indigo Nation, celebrated the biggest names in India's most exciting space in business, 'start-ups', at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi on July 29. The show was hosted by Mandira Bedi and tech guru Rajiv Makhni and Vikram Chandra, Group CEO, NDTV. The awards recognised the most credible dream chasers who have changed the way India does business.

'Women Entrepreneur of the Year' was awarded to Suchi Mukherjee, CEO and Founder, Limeroad, and Ranveer Singh was conferred with 'Brand Ambassador of the Year'. Amitabh Kant received the prestigious title of 'Start-Up Person of the Year' and Sanjeev Bhikhchandan, Founder, InfoEdge, won the 'Start-up Mentor of the Year'.

After a live pitching session, 'The New Kid on the Block' was awarded to the online pharmacy venture 1mg. 'The Dream Chaser of the Year' was given to Oyo Rooms. Ola and Paytm won the 'Unicorn of the Year Award'. 'Start-up of the Future' was awarded to GreyOrange. 'Global Startup of the Year was won by Airbnb and Uber. Swiggy won the 'People Startup of the Year' Award.

Vikram Chandra, Group CEO, NDTV, said, “We have entered a new business era of start-ups, and it could transform India. NDTV had tied up with NASSCOM 10,000 Start-ups as knowledge partner for the awards, and with Tracxn, a start-up intelligence and market research platform, as research partner. The jury panel included R Chandrashekhar, President, NASSCOM, Suchi Mukherjee, Founder and CEO, Limeroad, and Raman Roy, Chairman and Managing Director at Quatrro BPO Solutions.

The awards saw some of the biggest mentors and venture capitalists from the start-up space in attendance, including Dr Abhinav Mathur, ex-CTO, Spice Global and Amit Gupta, COO, Jupiter Capital.
