SONY WAH LOGOSony Pictures Networks India (SPN) had added another channel in its Hindi movie channels category. Sony WAH, the latest entrant in the category, is a free-to-air (FTA) channel. Based on a deep understanding of audience across different strata in the Hindi-speaking market (HSM) landscape, Sony WAH will cater to the needs of rural and small town India.

With its positioning as 'Filmon Ka Mela' the channel will showcase a mix of Hindi movies as well as films from the southern parts of India dubbed in Hindi. There will be a lot of marquee titles, ranging across present-day blockbusters to movies from the last three decades.

Sony Wah is the fourth channel in the network's Hindi movies category. The other channels are Sony MAX, Sony MAX2 and Sony MAX HD.

Speaking about Sony WAH going live, Neeraj Vyas, Senior EVP, Sony MAX & Sony MAX2 said, “With the launch of Sony WAH, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) becomes the only network to cover a range of audience across multiple geographies with its unique offering of four distinct and differently-positioned Hindi movie channels. Sony WAH completes the circle with its focus on rural and FTA audience offering them a spectrum of movies they would want to see and when they want to see; enabling both choice and selection for the viewer.”

Sony WAH is currently available on DD Freedish and key MSOs like Incable, DEN, Fastway, GTPL and many other independent cable operators across key markets in HSM.

Star India recently launched its own FTA movie channel Star Utsav Movies in the same genre. The rollout of BARC data on the rural market has given a lot of confidence to the broadcasters to venture deeper into the rural and small town markets.
