Veteran journalist and television news anchor Prabhu Chawla's upcoming news channel - National Voice News - is set to go on the floor by the end of this month. With the positioning 'Aapka Sawal, Aapka Jawab', it will be a bouquet of multiple regional channels, with national presence through DTH platforms.

The first channel will focus on the problems and solutions of UP, Bihar and Uttarakhand. The other channels to follow will be for the markets of Rajasthan, Punjab, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand, amongst others.

Speaking to BestMediaInfo, Chawla exuded great confidence in the regional markets. He said, “Regional channels, be it any genre, are performing much better than the English and national Hindi ones. People these days are more interested and curious to know about their region, their own leaders, their own problems. We want to connect to local people through our vision 'Aapka Sawal, Aapka Jawab'.”

Will the launch of the UP-Uttarakhand channel be timed with the UP Assembly elections slated next year? Chawla denied having planned it that way. However, he agreed that consumption of news content on TV increases manifold during and before elections. “Will we leverage on that? Why not? But we didn't plan it like that. We started off working on the channel about a year ago. It took us long to set things right and now, we will be launching the channel.”

If there are a string of regional channel launches in the offing, why call it 'National Voice News'? Chawla replied, “We are starting off with the heartland of the country. English is the voice of the elite, Hindi is the national voice. The channel will be available on DTH platform. We are taking UP to India, not India to UP like the national channels.”

The channel has a number of promoters of which the main promoter is a UP-based industrialist. Chawla owns a minor stake in the channel and is majorly responsible for the editorial and content advisory. He is straightforward in mentioning, “The channel will not have all of me, I will rather prefer training the younger ones to hold the baton. I have built a team and they will be the face and content of the channel. My presence will be little on the screen.”

The channel is strategising mainly on strengthening the content rather than making faces and anchors big. Chawla clarified, “We will not have superstitious and weird stuff like 'Raavan ki gufa' and all that. We are here to highlight serious problems of people and the reasons behind them. Our agenda will be what people want to see and talk about, not what we want to show on the channel.”
