The music festival is one of the oldest and biggest rock festivals and has earned the sobriquet – ‘Woodstock of India.’ It is the biggest platform for Rock bands in India and has been the cradle and barometer of the Indian rock music scene. Independence Rock has been committed to giving a platform to independent music and artist and at the same time promoting them.

Today, some of these artists have found recognition on a national level and has brought them strong following across the nation. This year the festival will be much bigger than the last couple of years with promotions on social media and other promotional vehicles. There is also the possibility that the finalists may record an album with a prominent record company. Shankar adds, “We will be taking auditions in the metros where we have already received 800 entries. And these entries have come from cities close to the metros as well.”

Elaborating, Shankar mentioned that they will be doing 360? marketing around the festival with major focus on television, while print, radio and outdoor will follow. The festival is likely to rope in four to five sponsors soon. The finals of I-Rock will be in Mumbai in the first week of September.
