Swapan Seth, Chairman of Equus, is nothing but a creative maverick who has been there done that. He is a votary and exponent of long copy. He is known to wear several hats – copywriter, art collector, cinema buff, columnist, style maven and social media man (incidentally, he has more followers than any other guy in Indian advertising).

But acting? Where did he pull that rabbit out of? We are not kidding. The fact is that Seth has just finished acting in sixad films for Matrix Cellular shot over two days last weekend!

"I last acted on stage when I was 17. So I am doing this after 31 years. We were trying to get in a Bollywood actor but he was turning out to be quite unaffordable. That is when the producer cum director, KabirSadanand, suggested that I do it! I was up for that. I had written the scripts in Hindi and the protagonist was a well-travelled guy. So I was quite comfortable with it," said Seth.

The ad films will be on air mid-March. Keep your patience till then to see the latest side of this versatile ad man.

Besides the six television commercials, the campaign featuring Seth will also run in print and outdoor.

Seth's entry into advertising, through HTA (now JWT), was a matter of chance. It was around 1987, in Calcutta. Hewas quite happy and busy selling video cassettes to anyone who cared to buy them in bulk. He was then studying in St Xavier's College. By his own admission, he used to be in college till 9.30 AM every morning and post that he would be in Calcutta's mini-buses with a bag full of cassettes! No wonder we call him a maverick.
