The India Chapter of International Advertising Association is all geared for two high decibel events today at St Regis Hotel, Parel in Mumbai.
The evening will begin with IAA Conversations, where Dr Subhash Chandra, Chairman, Essel Group and Zee, will talk to journalist, analyst and author Shankkar Aiyer on ‘News Neutrality’.
Later on, winners of the inaugural IndIAA Awards across 17 major advertising categories will be honoured.
Srinivasan Swamy, President, IAA India Chapter, remarked, “News Neutrality is a controversial hot button topic. Given Zee’s global footprint and experience in various markets, Subhash Chandra in conversation with Shankkar will bring deep insights to the subject. We have decided to have the IAA Conversation and the IndIAA Awards on the same day so that the people attending will have the opportunity to engage on two very different topics.”
Dr Bhaskar Das, Chairman, IAA Conversations, said, “Most often, the News Neutrality debate is around objectivity and ideology. Now, with accelerated online news delivery and wider television reporting, the conflict is even more apparent. This session of IAA Conversations will definitely bring a new perspective to the existing narrative.”
Shankkar Aiyer added here, “The explicit imperative of news is to inform and demands 360-degree objectivity. Opinions may choose to reform, but the right carries the implicit obligation to be reasoned and reasonable.”
The IndIAA Awards are being introduced for the first time by IAA. Top advertised categories were identified and popular campaigns in each were evaluated. Industry professionals were invited to nominate real work that worked. These were hosted on www.indiaa-awards.org. The Jury poured over the shortlisted nominations to choose the winners in 17 categories.
Pradeep Guha, Chairman, IndIAA Awards Committee, said, “Since the advertiser and the agencies that co-created the winning campaign are honoured on the same stage, this award format promises to be different.”
