TRAI steps in to iron out issues over interconnect agreements between MSOs & LCOs

The regulatory authority has sent letters to MSOs and LCOs asking them to point out the interconnect issues where it can mediate

The Telecom Regulatory Authority to India (TRAI) has stepped in as a mediator to help resolve issues pertaining to signing of interconnect agreements between multi-system operators (MSOs) and local cable operators (LCOs) in order to ensure smooth transition of digitisation. TRAI has sent letters to all MSOs and LCOs/LMOs in this regard.

The telecom regulator's move comes on the back of the Bombay High Court order dated September 1, 2015, wherein the court had given TRAI two weeks' time to organise a meeting between MSOs and LCOs and resolve their differences within a period of four weeks. In case TRAI failed in this endeavour, then the court would set a final hearing in this matter.

The Maharashtra Cable Operator Federation and Nashik Cable Operators Association had moved the Bombay High Court, expressing their dissatisfaction over the DAS regulations by TRAI. The cable operations felt that the interconnect agreements were in favour of the MSOs.

The matter will come up for hearing on October 13, 2013.
