After BestMediaInfo.com pointed out how India TV’s 3-days ratings should not be compared with full week’s ratings of other Hindi news channels in its morning report yesterday on BARC ratings for news channels, BARC India also clarified later in the day that the channel’s ratings were only recorded for three full days owing to “missing watermark” and that India TV was a strong No. 2 on the basis of ratings of those three days.

Shashi Sinha Shashi Sinha

Shashi Sinha, Chairman, Technical Committee, BARC India and CEO, IPG India Mediabrands, told BestMediaInfo.com that it would be fair to compare India TV’s ratings with other Hindi channels only on the basis of three clear days’ ratings only as their ratings for the rest of the week were not recorded for some technical reasons, primarily missing watermark.

“According to the data recorded for three clear days of April 22, 23 and 24 for Hindi speaking markets (HSM, 1 Lac+ HHs), Aaj Tak led the pack with a gross rating of 6.812 million closely followed by India TV with 5.907 million. ABP News stood No. 3 on the basis of three-day ratings recording 4.163 million,” elaborated Sinha.

Earlier, India TV, in an advertisement yesterday, had claimed that it was a strong No. 2 and pretty close to the No. 1 channel on the three days of full recorded data. According to the advertisement, India TV was the No. 1 channel on April 22 and 23 with relative share of 21.1% and 21.3%, respectively. On those two days, Aaj Tak had relative share of 18.4% and 20.3% followed by ABP News with 13.8% and 14.9%. On April 24, Aaj Tak was No. 1 with a relative share of 25.6% followed by India TV with 17.7% and ABP News with 14.9%.
