Zee TV Devi

Zee TV has announced the launch of the second part of 'Maharakshak', the super hero trilogy, titled 'Devi'. The first part, 'Aryan', which was about a teenage super hero, was introduced in November 2014. 'Devi', on the other hand, tells the story of a girl who discovers superpowers within her and sets out on a mission to combat contemporary social evils. The show will premiere on March 14, 2015 and air every Saturday and Sunday at 7 pm and promises to urge every Indian girl to look within for the strength to make a difference, because there's a 'Devi' inside you.

Namit Sharma, Programming Head, Zee TV, elaborated, “With the 'Maharakshak' series, our attempt has been to create some differentiated content during the weekends. With our two shows – 'Neeli Chhatri Wale' and 'Aryan' – we have created a different kind of DNA for the weekend. At Zee TV, we have always believed in creating stories highlighting women and showing their strength. 'Devi' is a finite series and it definitely sees an end; there will be around 26 episodes.”

Pradeep Hejmadi, Business Head, Zee TV, added here, “Fantasy, as a genre, had little or no representation on Indian television until we introduced the 'Maharakshak' trilogy last year. The attempt was to give viewers an original Indian superhero series, and the first part 'Aryan' was successful in that endeavour. With the second part, 'Devi', the premise of Good against Evil endures, but our protagonist is now a girl blessed with superpowers that she will leverage to surmount evil that has manifested itself in various modern-day avatars. She is the embodiment of the collective strength of every contemporary Indian woman and in that sense, urges every woman out there to draw from her inner strength to be the Devi she truly is.”

The show traces the journey of a divine child, who is chosen for the important role of protecting the earth against powerful asuras, who have manifested themselves in a number of modern-day avatars ranging from vicious criminals to corrupt politicians and serial rapists to fraudulent scamsters. Unaware of the infinite power she possesses, God's chosen one has spent 17 years away from human civilisation. Her extraordinary journey starts when she is mentored by her guru Brihaspati, who helps her connect with her inner strength and sends her back to human civilisation with a purpose. Umang Jain will essay the title role of Devi, Rohit Bakshi will be seen in the role of her guru Brihaspati, while the evil Shukracharya will be played by Indraneil Sengupta. The show is produced by Essel Vision Productions, ZEEL's creative and production studio.

As in the case of its other shows, Zee TV has embarked on a 360-degree integrated marketing plan for 'Devi', with focus on radio, television and digital.
