Olive Crown Awards

The India Chapter of International Advertising Association (IAA) hosted the fifth edition of its Olive Crown Awards on Friday, March 27, 2015, that celebrated excellence in communicating sustainability.

'Green Crusader of the Year Award' went to Sumaira Abdulali for her relentless efforts towards reduction of noise pollution and for her work which highlighted illegal sand mining. The award was presented by Minister for Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy, Piyush Goyal, along with the Guest of Honour, actor John Abraham.

Piramal Foundation and Apar (for Govardhan Eco Village) bagged the 'Corporate Social Crusader of the Year' award.

In the 'Press Corporate' category, RK Swamy BBDO won a Silver award for their work on Hindustan Times. The agency also bagged Silver for the work titled 'Clean My Mumbai Movement' in the Radio category. Stark Communications won a Silver award in the 'TVC Cinema – Services' category for the campaign 'Responsible Tourism – Kerala'. In the 'Digital' category, Mediacom's work for Audi won a Gold award, while Rawshark Films won a Silver award for their entry for Saahas. Kyoorius Designyatra won a Gold award in the 'Events' category, while Ogilvy & Mather won a Silver award in the same category for an entry submitted for Asian Paints. In the 'Out of Home' category, Ogilvy & Mather, for Asian Paints and Greenply, and Grey for Nagar, shared Silver awards. In the 'Press – Unreleased' category, IPMA (Indian Paper Manufacturers Association) earned a Gold, while RK Swamy BBDO (for World Environment Day) and Stark Communications shared Silver awards.

On the awards, Goyal said, “The growth in renewable energy has been a great one. The way to a green Earth is not to be paved by one individual, it needs the attention of all individuals. The Prime Minister of India alone will not be able to bring a dramatic change, but the populace of India can collectively bring about a drastic change. Organisations like the IAA and their endeavours like the Olive Crown Awards help take the message of brands and people alike to the masses, telling them that sustainability is key at a time where climatic change has affected Earth and all its beings dramatically. I am proud to have been invited to this prestigious ceremony and help share the Government's message about green Earth with advertising aces.”

Srinivasan K Swamy Srinivasan K Swamy

Srinivasan K Swamy, President of the IAA India Chapter, said, “At IAA, it is our mission to celebrate and honour individuals and corporates alike that have helped share the message of green Earth. Olive Crown has established the fact that what is good for mother Earth, is good for business too. Sustainable development and prosperity can go hand-in-hand and are not at cross purposes. My congratulations to all the winners.”

Neeraj Roy Neeraj Roy

Commenting on the occasion, Neeraj Roy, Vice-President, IAA and Chairman, Olive Crown Awards Committee, said, “We are proud that the message of global sustainability is being spread far and wide with the help of mass media. With the International Advertising Association's Olive Crown Awards would like to celebrate this spirit and hope that we leave behind for our generation a clean and green Earth.”

The event also saw IAA and Yes Foundation sign a partnership agreement, where both parties committed to jointly harness the power of media for social change. This was signed by Prerana Langa, CEO, Yes Foundation; Rana Kapoor, Chief Mentor, Yes Foundation; and Srinivasan Swamy, President of IAA India Chapter and Vice-President (Development), IAA Asia Pacific.
