asci-logoThe Advertising Standards Council of India’s (ASCI) Consumer Complaints Council (CCC) upheld complaints against 151 out of 201 advertisements in January 2015. Out of these 151 advertisements, 90 belonged to the Personal and Healthcare category, followed by the Education category with 40 advertisements.

Health and Personal Care

The CCC found the claims of 90 advertisers in the Personal and Healthcare category to be either misleading or false or not adequately/ scientifically substantiated and hence, violating ASCI’s Code. Some of the health care products or services advertisements also contravened provisions of the Drug & Magic Remedies Act and Chapter 1.1 and III.4 of the ASCI Code. Complaints were upheld against the advertisements of Wipro Safewash Liquid Detergent, P&G’s Oral B Sensitive Super Thin Toothbrush, Emami’s She Comfort Ultra, and Abbott India’s Digene, among others.

Education

The CCC found the claims by 40 advertisers in the Education category to be unsubstantiated and thus, violating ASCI Guidelines for Advertising of Educational Institutions. The complaints against the advertisements of Global Institute of Fashion Technology, Invotech Precision Engineers and Career Launcher, among others, were upheld.

Automobiles

Complaints against the advertisements of Skoda Rapid and Volkwagen Polo were upheld.

E-commerce
