AXN powers up with two new shows

The English entertainment channel has launched a drama series called 'Scorpion' and the new season of singing reality show 'The Voice'

BestMediaInfo Bureau | Mumbai | September 29, 2014

AXN-LogoEnglish entertainment channel AXN has launched two new shows - a high-voltage drama series 'Scorpion', which airs every Friday at 11 PM and the latest season of popular singing reality show 'The Voice', which airs every Saturday and Sunday at 8 PM.

'Scorpion' is based on a true story of Walter O'Brien – super genius, extraordinary protector with the fourth-highest IQ ever measured at 197 (Einstein had an IQ of 165). O'Brien was diagnosed as a child prodigy and was arrested at the age of 9 for hacking NASA's computer system. He went to the US on an 'extraordinary ability' visa which was earlier given to extraordinary people like Albert Einstein and Winston Churchill. O'Brien's hacker name was Scorpion.

Directed by Justin Lin of 'Fast and The Furious' fame, 'Scorpion' is based on real-life experiences of Walter O'Brien and focusses on a group of super-geniuses, comprising Walter and his team of brilliant misfits, who help solve complex, global problems. As Homeland Security's new think tank, O'Brien's 'Scorpion' team includes Toby Curtis (Eddie Kaye Thomas), an expert behaviourist who can read anyone, Happy Quinn (Jadyn Wong), a mechanical prodigy and Sylvester Dodd (Ari Stidham), a statistics guru.

The US premiere of 'Scorpion' on September 22, 2014, delivered a reach of 14 million viewers and was No 1 in its time period.

'The Voice' is an innovative format which has music icons as coaches who form their teams through blind auditions (without seeing the contestants). With the strongest vocalists from across the globe, the fresh season of 'The Voice' will see the 'Happy' hit-maker Pharrell Williams and Pop diva Gwen Stefani make their debut as the glamorous new coaches. The two music powerhouses and Grammy winners join veteran coaches Adam Levine (two wins) and Blake Shelton (three wins) in the rotating red swivel chairs for the seventh season of this Emmy-winning programme.

To make things more interesting, AXN will be holding the 'Voice of Choice Contest', a watch and win contest which requires viewers to answer questions about their favourite coach on the show. With a new question every passing weekend, viewers need to respond via SMS, tweets or Facebook wall posts on the AXN India page, to get close to the grand prize which is a chance to visit the sets of 'The Voice' in LA.

'The Voice' first aired in 2011 and has since won various accolades including that of the Best Competition Reality Emmy in 2013.

Saurabh Yagnik, Executive Vice-president and Business Head, Sony Pix & AXN India, said, “We have a power-packed September on AXN with two dynamic show launches. While 'Scorpion' is an inspiring story of the super genius, Walter O'Brien and his journey of ethical hacking, 'The Voice' is among the most popular international reality shows on TV. We are delighted to have it back on our channel for its latest season. Reality shows are always welcomed by the Indian viewers and with Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams making their coaching debuts, Season 7 of 'The Voice' will surely get even bigger.”
