Scarecrow has appointed Zohar Furniturewala as Executive Creative Director (Art) for its Mumbai office. He will be looking at the art department with the specific purpose of increasing its capabilities in the art, craft and design facets of the business. He joins Scarecrow on April 1, 2014.
Furniturewala has 15 years of work experience in creating and executing ideas-led brand campaigns and design projects. He has previously worked as Creative Director in Percept H, Consultant Creative Director for ET, Associate Creative Director for RK Swamy BBDO, Mumbai, and Associate Creative Director for The Times of India’s Response department.
Furniturewala will be mentoring the two groups in Scarecrow’s Mumbai Art Department, sharing the responsibility with Kapil Tammal.
“Scarecrow has a strong emphasis on creative art and design. I will be looking towards increasing the art and design quotient to whatever extent I can. We will, together, try to grow the team and the agency and are in the process of hiring some people. Manish (Bhatt) and Raghu (Bhat) have done some fabulous work, but as founder directors they might not be to look at the nitty gritty now. So I will be looking at it so that we can maintain the standard of work and take it forward from there,” Furniturewala said on his new role.
His portfolio includes Pantaloons Image Creation, Corporate IDs, D-Code Trousers, Altius BPO brand IDs, packaging for Lycot Swimwear, The Times of India Group, Adinath Builders assignments, brochures for Knights & Walker (UK), Future Media (media arm of Inde Global), international catalogues for corporate and 1.6 Deos Future Group, websites, IRA Diamonds (produced 18 issues of MY Advisors), photography, production, World Magazine, 1000 Oaks Restaurant (Pune), Exhibition Design and more.
A major in typography from Sir J.J. Institute of Applied Arts, Furniturewala is also the founder of the Thunk Design Company in 2007, where he handled fashion & lifestyle brands, home appliances and media brands, Reliance Corporate, Mustang socks and accessories, Optima Communications - Middle East, Chromozome Men's Innerwear, and Futurebazaar.com.
Manish Bhatt, Founder Director, Scarecrow, said, “At the current stage of Scarecrow's non-stop four-year-long journey, Scarecrow handles many brands like ITC (Vivel & Fiama Di Wills), Joy Cosmetics, Vimal, Lava and other brands across various categories like lifestyle, personal care, beauty, fashion, etc., which demand new design ideas every day. So, apart from Kapil Tammal, Scarecrow was looking for one more design mentor, which we found in Zohar. He is not only a great design mind but also a great idea person and an occasional writer too. And his experience of running a design house will help him to become one of the rare creative people who understand the business we are in.”
