Online music streaming site Gaana.com has announced a CSR initiative for underprivileged children to bring a wide smile on their faces this Independence Day week. The number one music portal has tied up with a children's NGO, ShikshaDaan Foundation, an online/web-based platform that brings the seeker and donor in the education space together, using technology as a catalyst. Gaana.com, which has about 5 million unique visitors a month, plans to donate one rupee to the NGO for every song shared on the website. The campaign spans for one week and at the end, the money collected will be presented to the NGO.
Under the initiative, an album thumbnail will be created on the Gaana homepage by the name “Bring a smile this Independence Day”. When people click on the thumbnail, they will be redirected to an album page where a splash will appear stating the share of a song and gifting of a smile. The concept will be explained to them with the album having top 20 Independence Day songs and the page will be installed with a share tracker counting the number of shares made (1 share = 1 rupee towards charity).
Users will be asked to share these songs with their friends on Facebook and #Gaana hashtag mentions on Twitter. Kingdom of Dreams has also associated with this initiative as a partner. As part of this campaign, the Gaana team also plans to take some children from the NGO to Kingdom of Dreams for a visit.
Pawan Agarwal, Business Head, Gaana.com, said, “This initiative is our humble way of giving back to the society .The objective behind such CSR initiatives is to bring a smile on the face of needy people. The 'Share a song for a smile' campaign is integral to our future, our children's future and the future of our world. Music is a great healer and can bring people together. This is an attempt from Gaana to use music as a medium for the betterment of society and to channel its cause. This step is a small effort in making a substantial and long-lasting impact on children's lives and raising awareness of the importance of survival, protection, development and participation.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Gaana for their 'Share a song' campaign," VG Krishnan, Co-founder, ShikshaDaan, said. “There are still millions of children who do not have access to schools and will not be able to fulfil their potential without additional support. Gaana's partnership will help us reach many more of those children in the coming year, giving each one a brighter future.”
