Acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali will sizzle television screens with a classic love story based on the iconic Gujarati novel 'Saraswtichandra', which will debut on Star Plus from February 25 at 7:30 PM.

The filmmaker, credited for creating memorable characters in his epic love stories, will replicate his magic through a modern day portrayal of Saraswatichandra and Kumud. The show will feature television heartthrob Gautam Rode as the multi-layered Saraswatichandra while Jennifer Winget plays the role of Kumud. Monica Bedi and Chetan Pandit will also play pivotal parts in the show. While Bhansali is also the creative director, Arvind Babbal will be the series director for the show.

Nachiket Pantvaidya, General Manager, Star Plus, said, “With Saraswatichandra we are celebrating romance on the channel, packaged in a never-seen-before format that matches the splendour and glory of cinema. We are delighted to work with renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali who has created cinematic masterpieces. Sarwastichandra promises to mesmerise audiences with its intensely passionate love story set against a backdrop of breathtaking sets.”

Saraswatichandra has been extensively shot at architectural marvels in Dubai and will feature some of that city's renowned landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa. Apart from its grand sets and bustling cities, Saraswatichandra will rely on latest technology to build a visual extravaganza for viewers. Viewers can expect to see a passionate and emotional love story wrapped in stylized production details, elaborate sets, charming colours, butter-soft cinematography and well-directed story-telling.

Nikhil Madhok, Vice-President, Marketing, Star Plus, elaborated, “Star Plus has had a fair success as far as romance is concerned. Strategically, our motive was to bring romance back on the channel and Sarasvatichandra is the perfect show for us. Fortunately, our time slot between 7 and 11 PM has been performing very well with shows like 'Saath Nibhana Saathiya' and 'Diya aur Bati'. We decided to pull off 'Khamoshiyan' as the show did not perform as per our expectations and hence decided to replace it with this show.”

“With regard to marketing, we plan a cross-promotional activity on television, cinema, outdoor and on-ground, particularly in Gujarat and some parts of Mumbai. We have designated a large budget to television promotions, 10-15 per cent to cinema, 10-15 per cent to digital and the rest to outdoor,” added Madhok.
