The eagerly anticipated 2013 calendar of sports is set to kick off with the first Grand Slam of the season, and fans can look forward to yet another extraordinary season of drama as ESPN Star Sports serves up unparalleled coverage of the Australian Open from Melbourne, starting next Monday, January 14, 2013.

Fans can continue to expect extensive live coverage of the Australian Open on Star Sports and in high-definition on ESPN HD. There will be up to 140 hours of live broadcast of the Australian Open.

There will also be exclusive studio presentations and analyses by presenter Alan Wilkins and tennis expert Vijay Amritraj. In addition, Paula Malai Ali will be in Melbourne bringing colour stories from the tournament, and one-on-one interviews with top players.

With four different Grand Slam winners last year, the first time since 2003, this season looks set to be one of the most widely contested seasons in a decade. Last year saw the dominance of Novak Djokovic in consolidating his status as the best player in the world, Andy Murray silencing critics by winning his first Grand Slam and Roger Federer tying Pete Sampras’ record of seven Wimbledon titles, as well as earning the honour as the player with most number of weeks at World No. 1.

This year, all eyes will be on indomitable Serena Williams as she looks to win her sixth Australian Open. She will face tough competition from Maria Sharapova, with four Grand Slam wins under her belt – including the 2008 Australian Open – as well as current World No. 1 and defending champion Victoria Azarenka.
