publive-imageOnline shopping is coming of age in India. The first industry-wide 24-hour online shopping festival organised by Google India on 12-12-12 – Great Online Shopping Festival (GOSF)has been a huge success with an unprecedented number of users coming online to find the best deals. The festival which saw participation from over 50 leading ecommerce companies in India was aimed at encouraging shoppers to adopt online shopping with a focus to reach out to first-time online buyers.

Speaking about the response till 4 PM yesterday, Rajan Anandan, VP & Managing Director, Google India, said, “This is by far the biggest online shopping event that India has witnessed in the history of eCommerce in the country. All our partners have seen massive increase in online traffic and some of them had already sold out their stocks by 3 PM. The response has been phenomenal and beyond our expectations and we hope that this initiative will further fuel the growth of online shopping in India.”

As per early reports, some partner companies witnessed the following responses on their respective sites.

Mukesh Bansal, Co-Founder & CEO, Myntra.com, said, "For Myntra, the response from GOSF has been very encouraging so far. We are witnessing many first-time shoppers engaging in high-value transactions and warming up to the idea of online shopping. Shoppers have seen great value in the special discounts offered by Myntra specifically for this 24-hour period. As of 3 PM on December 12, we have witnessed about 75 per cent increase in traffic and over 120 per cent jump in sales with an upward trend."

Narasimha Jayakumar, COO, HomeShop18.com, said, “The Great Online Shopping Festival has been a great success for our site as consumers have lapped up our deals. Till the afternoon, we had already seen a 3X increase in sales and most of our electronics and lifestyle offers were already sold out by 3 PM. We would definitely look to associate with such a property again in future.”

Subhanker Sarker, CEO, Indiatimes Shopping, commented, “GOSF has truly proved to be India's answer to Cyber Monday, especially after we have seen a 40 per cent hike in the unique traffic on our site, thanks to the buzz created by Google. The bestselling categories for us on GOSF have been mobiles, LCD/LED TVs and tablets. What's interesting is that 70 per cent of transactions using GOSF have been made by new customers who have never shopped on Indiatimes Shopping earlier.”

Kunal Bahl, Co-Founder and CEO, Snapdeal.com, said, "GOSF has proved to be quite a success for us. We have seen a jump of more than 50 per cent in the daily traffic and we are expecting to record a jump in our sales as well. Initiatives like GOSF act as a catalyst to further boost adoption of online shopping in India.”

Rajesh Iyer, CMO, Pepperfry.com, said, “GOSF has been a good success for us. We had seen a good build-up since the last two days and today we have seen 40 per cent growth in traffic and new visitors to the site. There has been a 25 per cent uptick in items sold and transaction vibrancy is high. There was significant traction in our core categories – Home & Furniture. Kudos to Google India for leading this well planned and superbly executed initiative.”
