Dish TV offers basic channel package free of cost for life

In a move that may unleash fierce competition in the first phase of digitisation, Dish TV’s basic package comprises 70 channels

DTH service provider Dish TV yesterday announced a game changing initiative for viewers in the four metros which fall under the digitization schedule. Under the offer, these customers will be eligible to receive a basic channel tier comprising 70 channels free of cost for life. This compares very favourably with the TRAI recommendation and the fact that all cable multi-system operators (MSOs) are providing the basic tier at Rs 100 per month.

Viewers availing this offer will have to remain active by subscribing to a regular package at least twice during a year. Consumers in the four metros are apprehensive about moving to the digital environment where TV signals will get disconnected on depletion of account balance.

Moreover, cable operators have already announced a Rs 100 monthly charge for the basic tier, which will be provided free of cost by Dish TV.”
