publive-imageThe ninth edition of the annual PROMAX/BDA India Conference and Awards, held at the JW Marriot Mumbai from May 24 to 25, 2012, saw a record attendance of over 300 executives from the Indian broadcast fraternity.

Over 800 entries were received for the 2012 Promax/BDA India Awards, which recognises excellence in on-air promotion, branding and advertising. The number of entries vying for the coveted Promax Muse Awards for excellence in promotion and marketing, and BDA Isis Awards for excellence in broadcast design, increased by 7 per cent from 2011. The award ceremony was held on May 25, 2012.

While Viacom18 was the leading scorer with 20 medals, Star India remained at No. 2 with 12 awards.

ESPN Star Sports scooped up six awards marking a complete sweep of sports categories with its Formula One 2011 “Elements” campaign winning two Gold awards for the Best Sports Campaign and Best Sports Promo, while the Wimbledon 2011 and Barclays Premier League campaigns won Silver awards for the Best Sports Promo and the Best Sports Campaign respectively.

In addition, ESPN STAR Sports secured accolades in highly competitive non-sport categories, clinching two Silver awards for the Best Script and the Best Promo Not Using Programme Footage categories for the Wimbledon 2011 and Champions League T20 “Clocks” campaigns, respectively.

Said Paras Sharma, ESPN Star Sports' VP, Marketing and Communications, said, “It is indeed very pleasing to win these awards and getting our work recognised by our industry peers. What makes this success even more gratifying is that it has been achieved in tandem with various business objectives, and it continues to be our focus to meld creativity with commercial goals.”

Ten industry professionals were guest speakers at this year's Promax/BDA India Conference, with the goal to inspire delegates to tap today's media technology and revolutionise the Indian broadcast industry.

“We are pleased to have successfully brought together some of the biggest names in the broadcast industry to share invaluable strategies and innovative ways for brands to optimise digital technology. The broadcast industry is changing in huge ways, the consumer is more receptive to new products, and it is imperative that companies present experiences that continue to engage in the digital age,” said Jonathan Hallett, Managing Director of PromaxBDA Asia Pte Ltd.

Keynote speaker and award-winning trailer producer Sohini Sengupta, who is known for her work in Milk, Slumdog Millionaire, The Wrestler, Black Swan and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, examined how digital technology takes the work of producing trailers to a new level by enabling them to be interactive.

Reprising his most talked about session Cool Shit at last year's PromaxBDA LA Conference, was Frederico Gaggio, VP and Executive Creative Director of Discovery Networks Western Europe. Through creative case studies, Gaggio showcased new and interesting ways brands and advertisers can leverage the power of digital and social media to establish deeper and more meaningful relationships with their audience.
