Group FMG acquires creative digital agency Pod1

Aims at becoming a global leader in the 3Cs space – content, commerce and creative services

BestMediaInfo Bureau | Delhi | June 14, 2012

Group FMG, a global provider of high impact marketing and media solutions, has acquired Pod1, an award winning creative digital agency with a focus on e-commerce and creative design. The acquisition strengthens Group FMG’s portfolio of creative design, production (content & graphics), and commerce enablement offerings, while reinforcing its position as an agency of record for commerce and the production of multi-channel digital assets.

With Pod1’s impressive experience, client base and leadership, Group FMG is now exceptionally poised to benefit from the rapidly growing e-commerce marketplace. Such services will benefit both Group FMG’s new and existing roster of global clients including American Media Inc., Sears, Staples, Pepsi, Boots, Harrods, Boden, Disney, Reader’s Digest, Penguin, Harper Collins, BBC, Haymarket, IBM, Yahoo!, Microsoft, Sony, Sandals, and more.

Global CEO of Group FMG, Dilip Keshu, said, “I’m very happy to welcome Fadi Shuman, Pod1’s CEO, and his team to the Group FMG family. With Pod1 now an integral part of Group FMG, we are even closer to establishing our voice as a global leader of the 3Cs – content, commerce, and creative services.”

CEO of Pod1, Fadi Shuman, said, “We are excited to join a company with such a strong, strategic focus on brand solutions. Our combined expertise will give clients an incredible range of skills and experience essential for achieving success in the current digital marketplace.”

Group FMG believes its unique value proposition lies in its ability to create visually stunning digital assets in an innovative way for multi-channel consumption, using a globally balanced production model. Group FMG’s solutions help brands “attract” and “interact” with users. Pod1 works at the intersection of creative design and e/m commerce and, thus, is a perfect complement to Group FMG’s existing offerings.

Pod1 also brings world-class recognition to Group FMG, through extensive industry accolades, which include a BIMA Award, DOPE Award, Webby Award, AOP Shortlist, DBA Effectiveness Award for Pepsi Max, placement in the Top 100 Design Groups and ranking within the top 100 on the NMA list, among others. The acquisition of Pod1 brings Group FMG’s global headcount to over 300 employees throughout offices in New York, London, Bangalore and Chennai.

I would like to inform about some incorrect details in this blog post. Pod1 Ltd (London) was set up in 2001. Pod1 Inc (New York) was set up in 2008 using funds from the at time believed healthy accounts of Pod1 Ltd. Pod1 Ltd went into liquidation in 2011 leaving more than £2 million in debt with a large number of creditors (ranging from small business to government departments such as HMRC and big corporations such as Vodafone). Another point worth mentioning is Pod1 Inc client list, which is not accurate. The following accounts have never been part of the Pod1 Inc portfolio: Net-A-Porter, Uniqlo, Matthew Williamson and LK Bennet. It is really interesting to see that a serious group such as FMG has decided to establish such a business endeavour with these people. Documents proving this are available upon request.
