Sony Entertainment Television has unveiled its brand new fiction show ‘Shubh Vivaah’. With the UTV Television produced show being launched in the 7:30 pm slot on February 27, 2012, Sony is set to open its early prime time slot, and will compete with ‘Sasural Genda Phool’ on Star Plus, ‘Sasural Simar Ka’ on Colors and ‘Choti Bahu’ on Zee TV.
The cast of ‘Shubh Vivaah’ is an ensemble of the who's who of the telly industry. After wooing millions of hearts through his striking portrayal of a Punjabi boy in the blockbuster ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, Eijaz Khan is all set to don the attire of a rustic boy from UP in ‘Shubh Vivaah’. Neha Janpandit, who was last seen in Sony Entertainment Television’s ‘Chhajje Chhajje Ka Pyaar’, is paired with Eijaz. This show also marks veteran actor Rakesh Bedi’s comeback on the small screen.
Set in present day UP, the show will showcase the sights and hubbub of the lanes and by-lanes of Agra and Vrindavan. The mesmerising backdrop of Taj Mahal and the sacred ghats of Vrindavan evoke the essence of Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking at the launch, Sneha Rajani, Senior EVP and Business Head, Sony Entertainment Television, said, “Having consolidated our fiction lineup in the 8 PM – 11 PM slot with ‘Kuch Toh Log Kahenge’, ‘Dekha Ek Khwaab’, ‘Saas Bina Sasuraal’, ‘Parvarish’, ‘Kya Hua Tera Vaada’ and ‘Bade Acche Laggte Hain’, we are now extending our offering further with ‘Shubh Vivaah’. The show based in UP has a compelling story line that will appeal to audiences across the Hindi heartland.”
“2012 began on a successful note with the launch of ‘Kyaa Hua Tera Vaada’. Our second fiction offering this year, ‘Shubh Vivaah’, will enhance the existing bouquet of fiction shows on Sony. With a robust rollout for both fiction and non-fiction slated right across the year, 2012 promises to be an exciting year for us,” commented N P Singh, COO, Multi Screen Media.
Santosh Nair, COO, UTV Television, added, “The show is an adaptation of the award-winning Tamil show ‘Metti Oli’ and we are glad to bring this show to our Hindi audiences through Sony Entertainment Television. The show has a unique and heart-warming storyline which will definitely strike the right cord with the audience. We look forward to this show being another stupendous success like its Tamil counterpart.”
‘Shubh Vivaah’ is the story of every average middle class girl in India. Every girl cherishes a dream since her childhood – of finding an ideal husband and a picture perfect marriage. And it's every parent's dream to find an ideal husband for their daughter, one who has been brought up to adhere to all the values and traditions and will give their daughter every happiness in the world. Yet, as they say, matches are made in heaven and more often than not, the dream of an ideal husband remains incomplete. In this imperfection, each girl tries to find love and make her marriage work.
‘Shubh Vivaah’ explores the lives of Mr Saxena and his five daughters. The story traces the love these five sisters share, the bonds they cement, the faith they place in each other and the dedication with which they try to face the harsh realities of their lives. Mr Saxena is a doting father whose only dream in life is to get his daughters married into respectable families and to see that they lead happy married lives. Since his wife’s death, Mr Saxena has been both a father and a mother to his daughters.
Like every average middle class girl in India, these five sisters also have been dreaming of a perfect marriage. They don’t expect much from the man of their dreams. All they are looking for is unconditional love from their future husbands. Finally, the time arrives when each of them gets married and with a heavy heart Mr Saxena bids them farewell to them. How does marriage change the lives of the five sisters?
TV channels and production houses today are adopting new ways to seek god’s blessings before the launch of a new show. Going the religious way, ‘Shubh Vivaah’ has roped in the famous devotional singer Lakhbir Singh Lakha for a special performance in the opening episode of the show.
The renowned singer will pay a tribute to Mata Rani in a ‘jagrata’ and will be joined by the cast, which will feature Rakesh Bedi and his five daughters including lead actress Neha Janpandit, seeking blessings for ‘Shubh Vivaah’ in the first episode.
