It's a double setback for Mail Today, the compact morninger from the India Today Group. Even before the news of Bharat Bhushan putting in his papers as Editor was a day old, came the news that Rahul Thappa, COO, Mail Today, has also quit after a little less than eight months at the paper.
Thappa, who replaced Suresh Balakrishnan, had joined in May this year. Business Head Manoj Sharma is replacing Thappa as the new COO. Sharma was reporting to Thappa.
Meanwhile, while there is no official word on it yet, according to informed industry sources, Sandeep Bamzai is tipped to take over as Editor of Mail Today. He is currently working in a senior editorial position in Headlines Today, the English news channel of the India Today Group.
Thappa had come in to Mail Today from Mindshare Malaysia where he was Managing Director. He has also been Business Director for Entertainment, Sports and Partnerships at Mindshare Malaysia and Planning & Buying Director in Team Unilever.
Before joining Mindshare, he had stints with Mudra Communications, MPG India, Ogilvy & Mather and Indian Express.
This is Sharma's third stint with the India Today Group. He first joined India Today in 1990 and had played an instrumental role in the launch of products like 'Cosmopolitan' and 'Today', the afternoon newspaper that was shut down prior to the launch of Mail Today. Sharma has also worked with CNBC TV 18 for a year, where he was Business Development Head for the North and East markets.
