In a sudden development, Bharat Bhushan, Editor of Mail Today, the compact morninger from the India Today Group, has put in his papers. He brings his four-and-a-half-year stint on December 31, 2011, his last day at the paper. He had joined Mail Today in May 2007
When contacted, Bhushan said, “Yes, I have put in my papers but I am not joining anywhere at present as I will be taking a two-and-a-half-month break.”
BestMediaInfo has information on who will replace Bhushan as Mail Today's Editor, but is refraining from naming him as part of fair journalism in the absence of official word confirming the same. We do not want to embarrass the individual concerned or prejudice his appointment. All we can say at this stage is that he is an insider from the India Today Group.
Bhushan moved to Mail Today from The Telegraph, the English daily of the Kolkata-based ABP Group, where he was Editor-Delhi (from 2002 to 2007). Prior to The Telegraph, he was Executive Editor of Hindustan Times. Before that he was with The Times of India Group and The Indian Express where he was the paper's Washington Correspondent.
India Today launched the Daily mail in mid-2007 as part of a joint venture agreement it had entered into with Associated Newspapers (ANL), publishers of the Daily Mail of the UK.
Bhushan has an experience of more than 25 years in journalism. Over the years he has made a name as a writer and reporter on foreign policy and national politics. Besides working for some the top dailies in the country, he has been Executive Producer, BS TV, and ran the television division of Business Standard from February 2001 to March 2002.
He was Executive Editor of HT from June 1996 to January 2001. Before that he was Editor of Express News Service from October 1994 to October 1995. He was the Washington Correspondent of Indian Express from January 1993 to September 1994. His other assignments include a stint as Assistant Editor at Business India, and Assistant Editor, The Times of India.
