publive-imageCalcutta Media Institute (CMI), promoted by one of the largest diversified media groups in the country, ABP Group, has been set up to provide the media and communication industry with worthwhile educational initiatives that will benefit the industry and students alike.  The Institute is headed by Amitabha Datta, former President - Dailies, ABP Pvt Ltd.

The first course is a 20-week foundation course in Advertising and Communication which has just got rolling. The five-month course, with evening classes, has as its faculty, all leading practitioners in the field of Advertising, Media, Research, PR, Direct and Digital.  Designed by industry professionals, this course will prepare students to take on the rigours of the communication industry from day one.

“Our aim is to provide the communication industry with trained manpower so that organisations don't have to waste time, effort and money training people. Today a lot of investment and resources are spent by organisations in training youngsters.  We hope to bridge that gap,” said Sandip Chaudhuri, Programme Director at CMI and an advertising professional who has worked with McCann, Clarion/Bates and Lintas.

Following up on its foundation course, CMI is exploring other courses in the area of Media and Television and work is on with industry experts in finalising the curriculum for them. On the anvil are courses on Television Management and Media Sales Management. In addition to these long-term courses, CMI has announced a course on Public Speaking, classes for which will be taken by well-known quiz master Barry O'Brien.

Admissions for this course are currently on and classes will begin from January 2, 2012.

The CMI is planning to offer workshops on Media Planning, Digital and Social Media and creating effective TV commercials.
