Market share of both Hindi & English News genre went up by 41% & 36% respectively.

News channels – both English and Hindi – had seen a spurt in the viewership followed by the serial blasts in Mumbai on 13th July 2011. Overnight rating agency aMap has released the analysis on the increase in the viewership for English and Hindi news genre separately. The agency has included Aajtak, IBN7, IndiaTV, NDTVIndia, Live India, News24, Star News and Zee News for Hindi news genre study while it has included 4 channels CNN IBN, Times Now, NDTV24*7 and Headlines Today for English news genre study.

The analysis indicates that reach of the Hindi News genre increased by 16% and 20% for English News as viewers tuned into witness the traumatic scenario at the blast site. At the same time, market share of both Hindi & English News genre went up by 41% & 36% respectively.

Specifically taking Mumbai Market into consideration, reach increased by 33% for the Hindi News Genre while English News Genre went up by 64%. Mumbai Viewers spent 13 more minutes consuming the news in Hindi and 2 additional minutes on the English News genre.
