IRS Q1 2011: Top 10 Dailies in Uttar Pradesh
Hindustan, Amar Ujala and Amar Ujala Compact put up a good show in the state.

The largest Hindi speaking state Uttar Pradesh has seen 6 out of top 10 dailies flourishing in the first quarter of IRS 2011. Unlike previous quarter, there is no change in order of publications.
The No.1 daily of Uttar Pradesh 'Dainik Jagran' is firmly holding its fort in its home ground. The newspaper had maintained the status quo in IRS Q4 2010 but somehow seen a marginal decline of just 1.4% in the current survey. Its current AIR stands at 88.15 lakh as compared to 89.38 lakh in previous quarter and 90.65 lakh in Q1 2010.
The second largest newspaper in the state 'Amar Ujala' is growing at a constant rate. The paper has added over 1 lakh readers in the current quarter and taken its AIR at 69.46 lakh as compared to 68.31 lakh in the previous quarter and 65.17 lakh in IRS Q1 2010.
At No.3 is Hindi daily 'Hindustan' which has maintained its high growth rate on quarter on quarter basis. Riding on the rapid expansion plans and new edition launches, the daily has seen overall growth of 42% over the past year. Hindustan has recorded an AIR of 36.76 lakh in IRS Q1 2011 as compared to 31.89 lakh in the previous quarter and 25.96 lakh in IRS Q1 2010.
'Amar Ujala Compact' has strengthened its position at No.4 which it acquired in the last quarter from Hindi daily Aj. The compact daily from Amar Ujala has recorded an AIR of 9.01 lakh as compared to 8.03 lakh in the previous quarter and 3.49 in IRS Q1 2010. The paper has witnessed a growth of over 158% over the past one year.
'Aj' has also seen some growth in IRS Q1 2011 over the last quarter. The paper has recorded and AIR of 7.46 lakh as compared to 7.29 lakh in the previous quarter and 6.18 lakh in Q1 2010.
At No.6, Rashtriya Sahara has also added some readers. The newspaper has an AIR of 6.35 lakh in IRS Q1 2011 as compared to 6.24 lakh in the previous quarter and 5.63 lakh in Q1 2010.
'The Times of India' has lost some readers in this quarter over the last quarter. TOI has recorded an AIR of 5.42 lakh as compared to 5.55 lakh in the previous quarter and 5.14 lakh in Q1.
Dainik Jagran Group's English daily 'I-Next' has again seen decline in its readership and recorded an AIR of 4.75 lakh as compared to 5.12 lakh in IRS Q4 2010 and 6.18 lakh in Q1.
Published from Agra and Jhansi, the afternoon tabloid “Daily Life Assistance (DLA)” holds the No.9 position in Uttar Pradesh. However the newspaper has continuously losing its ground and seen an overall decline by 32% over the past one year. Its current AIR stands at 3.47 lakh as compared to 4.08 lakh in Q4 2010 and 5.08 lakh in Q1 2010.
India's No.2 English daily 'Hindustan Times' is at No.10 position in Uttar Pradesh. Supported with the growth of Hindustan, HT has grown by 28% over the past one year. HT has an AIR of 2.86 lakh in IRS Q1 2011 as compared to 2.62 lakh in Q4 2010 and 2.24 lakh in Q1 2010.
