“Creative Survival Kit” was the theme at this year's Seventh PromaxBDA India Awards. As the creative brains struggle through various roadblocks to put their ideas to action, how do the winner ideas eventually came through made for an interesting two-day affair at the Marriott, Mumbai last week.

The annual show, sponsored by Salt Studios among many others, drew a cross section of creative Indian talent from the broadcast industry from all over the country.  B S Shreedhar, founder-director of Salt Studios reckons that the Promax Awards is the best platform to identify exciting new creative talent from the broadcast space. He adds, “Being at the Promax this year has given us a great momentum to our business, with some of the best in the industry expressing interest in wanting to work with Salt. Clearly, this is the place to be for everyone in the creative space.”

Some of the best creative brains from all over the world shared their thoughts, experiences and insights on various dynamics of the business. There was Lee Hunt, strategist and trainer for media companies around the world, who spoke about sustained best practices in business that makes top-rated networks grow year on year. An unusual presentation came from Martin Kett and Patrick Seelinger- Creative Director and Head of Design, Velvet Design who spoke about “Does the left brain know what the right brain is doing?” Building on the concept that creativity is right-brained and strategy is left brained, they demonstrated how they went about creating unique channel personalities through a complete re-branding exercise for channels including Al Jazeera and ZDF News. Olivier Schaack, Director of Creative Services, Canal+ spoke on how he helped the channel evolve in a competitive market. The others who spoke during the two-day event were Nikki Bentley on how “live” events are driving television businesses, and AK Madhavan, CEO of Crest Animation Studios on the making of “Alpha and Omega” the animation film produced by Crest.

The Promax Awards wrapped up the event with Viacom 18 Media picking up seven gold and seven silver awards, followed by Nick with four gold and two silver and MTV India which bagged three gold and four silver awards.
