publive-imageNew York Festivals International Advertising Awards, now in its 54th year of honoring the World's Best Advertising™, announced its 2011 award winners on May 5th at the awards ceremony at Skylight West in New York City.  But, this year, the Indian agencies managed to get a bronze medal only making it as one of the worst performances by Indian agencies at NYF. Last year, Indian agencies had won 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze along with 19 finalist awards at the New York Festival International Advertising Awards. However, they have managed to get 18 finalist awards this year too.

For the first time ever, the NYF Executive Jury selected only one outstanding entry to receive the coveted title of “World's Best Idea®”:  Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam was honored for their integrated campaign “Write The Future” for client Nike.

The objective of “Write The Future” was to weave Nike into conversations taking place around the World Cup.  The winning entry celebrates the participating Nike athletes by giving a glimpse into their future base on their success and failures on the World Cup stage.  Jason Clement, Director of Emerging Platforms at Wieden + Kennedy NY, accepted the award on behalf of W+K Amsterdam.

"We'd like to give a big thank you to the New York Festivals jury for the Grand Award,"said Mark Bernath, Creative Director on the Write the Future campaign and current co-ECD of W+K Amsterdam. "New York is tough enough as it is, so being honored in such a way feels properly special."

Nike was also presented with the New York Festivals 2011 Advertiser of the Year Award for their commitment to creativity and innovation.  In addition to being awarded the “World's Best Idea®,” Nike also earned 1 Gold World Medal, 7 Silver, 1 Bronze, and 7 Finalists.

The Network of the Year and Advertising Agency of the Year are prestigious honors presented to the company that produces the finest caliber of work, and the company that garners the most awards in the competition.

BBDO was honored last night with the title of Network of the Year, receiving 3 Gold World Medals, 18 Silver, 38 Bronze and 72 Finalist Certificates.

“We're humbled by this recognition,” said David Lubars, Chairman & Chief Creative Officer, BBDO North America. “We want to thank our many clients for

demanding our best.”

Leo Burnett Sydney was awarded the Agency of the Year Award for their stellar work. The agency received 4 Gold World Medals, 5 Silver, 2 Bronze and 10 Finalist Certificates.

The prestigious New York Festivals Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to legendary advertising executive Keith Reinhard, Chairman Emeritus of DDB Worldwide, for his contributions to the advertising industry. Amir Kassaei, Executive Jury member and Worldwide CCO of DDB Worldwide, presented the award.  The NYF Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes prominent industry leaders whose accomplishments and contributions have advanced the field of advertising and made a lasting impression on the creative community.

The NYF Living Legend Award recognizes prominent industry luminaries, whose personal excellence and extraordinary contributions have advanced the field of advertising, made a lasting impression on the creative community, and who continue to influence the profession in a significant way.

This year NYF honored  iconic Award-Winning Commercial and Feature Film Director Bob Giraldi, of Giraldi Media, with one of  the first ever NYF Living Legend Awards. JD Gargano, former student of Mr. Giraldi and Broadcast Designer/Motionographer for Tribune Creative Group, presented the award along with fellow Giraldi students.  A second NYF Living Legend was awarded to Bob Carr, award-winning Commercial Film Editor with Red Car.  Larry Bridges, Founder of Red Car Inc., presented the award to Mr. Carr.

NYF's Executive Jury awarded 37 Gold World Medals, 134 Silver Medals, and 249 Bronze Medals in this year's competition.  The United States received a total of 9 Gold World Medals.  The following countries were also honored with Gold World Medals: Australia 7 Gold Medals; Germany 6 Gold Medals; Argentina, France and Sweden each received 3 Gold Medals; Japan was awarded 2 Gold Medals; England, Finland, Singapore, and The Netherlands were each awarded 1 Gold Medal.

The following Executive Jury members presented awards at this year's ceremony: Darren Moran, CCO,  Draftfcb, NY; Bechara Mouzannar, CCO, Leo Burnett MENA; Ronald Ng, EVP & ECD, BBDO, NY; Benjamin Palmer, Founder & CCO, The Barbarian Group, NY; Santosh Padhi, CCO & Co-Founder, Taproot India; Marcus Rebeschini, CCO, Y&R Asia; and Graham Warsop, Founder & Creative Chairman, The Jupiter Drawing Room South Africa.  In addition, Executive Jury Moderator Donald Gunn, Founder of the Gunn Report also presented.

Each year New York Festivals, in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Public Information, appoints a panel to select work that exemplifies the aims and ideals of the United Nations. The 2011 UNDPI Jury honored the following entries: Gold Award goes to Lowe Brindfors of Stockholm, Sweden, for “The Lottery of Life,” the integrated media campaign produced for Save the Children Sweden.  DDB Budapest, Hungary received the Silver Award for “Slow Download” for Amnesty International Magyarorszag.  The digital and interactive campaign calls for pressure on world leaders to deliver on the promises of the Millennium Development Goals.  DDB Shanghai China was awarded the Bronze Award for “Green Pedestrian Crossing,” for the China Environmental Protection Foundation.  The outdoor campaign was produced to encourage a reduction in automotive traffic.

Winning entries of the 2011 New York Festivals International Advertising Awards were selected by NYF's Executive Jury.  Award winners were selected from a short list of finalists chosen by the Grand Jury, comprised of 320 Senior Creative Directors from 56 countries around the world, representing the largest and most diverse jury of any advertising competition in the world.

This year, NYF presented a live broadcast of the World's Best Advertising™ taking place at Skylight West.  The online event was accessible via http://www.newyorkfestivals.com and featured more than three hours of entertaining advertising industry content. The broadcast included highlights from creative panels of NYF's first Live Executive Jury. In addition, viewers had access to keynote speaker presentations by Keith Reinhard, Chairman Emeritus of DDB Worldwide; Donald Gunn, Founder of the Gunn Report; and Bob Giraldi, award-winning Feature Film and Commercial Director.
