Japan's double tragedy of the 8.8 magnitude earthquake and tsunami attracted high viewership in India. This is the first ever natural disaster in human history which has been covered so extensively by the news channels completely. All the news channels including international news channels in India and Indian news channels saw increase in their share on 11th march, the fateful Day when this tragedy hit Japan.

Among the Indian English news channels, CNN-IBN attracted the maximum eyeballs according to the TAM data released for week 11. The association with international news channel CNN helped CNN-IBN to take a clear lead in India.

CNN-IBN remained by far the number one channel in All India Market and as well as in the Metros. TAM data for 11th and 12th March shows that CNN-IBN got 35 per cent of the market share followed by NDTV 24x7 with 25 per cent in All India Market. Times Now was at number three with 22 per cent market share. Headlines Today also saw an increase in its share and the English news channel got 14 per cent market share. Trailing at number four spot was News X with 3 per cent market share.
