The jury comprised former Chief Justice of India AS Anand, N Ram, Editor of The Hindu, Philip Mathew, Managing Editor of Malayalam Manorama, MK Razdan, Editor-in-chief, PTI, and TN Ninan, Editor, Business Standard.

TEHELKA's former Northeast correspondent Teresa Rehman's expose of the brutal killing of Chongkham Sanjit by Manipur Commandos on 23 July, 2009 finds a special mention by the jury. Thirteen months after Tehelka's report, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) went on to charge nine of the accused police commandos for murder.

Just two weeks ago, our principal correspondent Tusha Mittal was awarded the 2010 Press Institute of India and Red Cross award for Best Article on Humanitarian Issues.

Instituted in 2003, IPI India journalism award have been earlier conferred to Indian Express, NDTV, Outlook Magazine and The Week magazine. The jury did not find suitable entry for the award in 2005 and 2008.
