Zee News with United Nations' Millennium Development Goals Campaign has taken up the initiative to eradicate extreme poverty and its root causes. Being the country's leading media organization, Zee News also became the medium to create awareness about the alarming condition of poverty in the country. This campaign is aimed at encouraging people to take part in a common action to ensure widespread participation, urging everybody to think of creative ways to make noise and participate in this very important cause.

As a part of this campaign, a special concert at the historic Purana Quila in Delhi was organized on Saturday, 18th September, 2010 to highlight the need for urgent action to meet the Millennium Development Goals.

At the concert, hundred percussion and string artistes from different parts of the country produced a spectacular symphony of sounds. Besides, Sharat Chandra Srivastava, Mayanglambam Mangangsana and Shri Ganesh presented the orchestra for solo pieces that were finally merged together in a grand finale. The event was covered exclusively by Zee News.

The event was also endorsed by Bollywood actor Preity Zinta.

The event was one of many strategic “Stand Up, Take Action, Make Noise” events around the world from September 17 to 19 as part of a global campaign to urge governments to make good on the promises they made in 2000 at the United Nations, where they signed the Millennium Declaration affirming their commitment to a peaceful, just and equitable world.

In India, various celebrities – Gulzar, Sunidhi Chauhan, A.R. Rehman, Ranbir Kapoor, Kailash Kher, Yuvraj Singh and Sonu Nigam have joined hands with this campaign to give their whole hearted support for the cause.
