Reddit gets a makeover; revamps logo and typography

The company is hopeful that the new changes which are aimed at making the brand 'more integrated, intuitive and global' will help Redditors worldwide to continue engaging in conversations with each other

Reddit gets a makeover; revamps logo and typography

After launching the first Reddit mobile app and redesigning desktop experience in 2017, Reddit has now evolved its branding to become ‘more integrated, intuitive, and global’ and therefore has given a ‘more accessible and bespoke’ makeover to the platform’s typography, conversation bubbles and logo.

Announcing the development via blogpost, the company shared that it believes that these changes will help redditors worldwide continue engaging in conversations with each other.

“We’re introducing new bespoke typefaces, Reddit Display, and Reddit Sans. Reddit Display incorporates the theme of conversation directly, with counterforms designed in the shape of conversation bubbles. It’s the basis for our new wordmark and is perfect for bold, expressive headlines,” the company mentioned in the blogpost.

It also highlighted that the goal behind bringing in Reddit Sans is to be ‘open-source and available on GitHub and Google Fonts’.

Similarly, Reddit also mentioned that the motive behind introducing a conversation bubble visual element and expanding the palette of colours used to represent Reddit is done to highlight the wide variety of different communities, thoughts, and conversations across the platform.

“In addition to OrangeRed, Reddit colors now include GuavaPink, LimeGreen, BananaYellow, and JuniperBlue. Redditors are colourful, so adding more hues better expresses and conveys the uniqueness of Reddit communities, posts, and conversations,” the company rationaled.

Additionally, the company also revamped its logo and mascot, Snoo and made it more lively than ever, moving into 3D with updated poses, expressions, and reactions.

Reddit’s Chief Marketing and Consumer Experience Officer, Roxy Young, also said, “As we expand our global presence into new markets and engage with more audiences from advertisers and developers to redditors and moderators, we need to strengthen our brand foundation to allow for more creative and consistent expression. Our goal remains to focus on redditors' needs and make it simpler to bring community, belonging, and empowerment to everyone in the world.”
