Historically, television viewership spikes on public holidays and special days. Keeping this in mind, television broadcasters leave no stone unturned to show their best content on these days.
Republic Day is one such day when everyone tries to put up their best show to garner eyeballs. Advertisers too take great interest in the programming on these special days. This year too, as India prepares to celebrate the 69th Republic Day, a few channels have planned some special programmes.
Times Network
Times Network has decided to commemorate the Republic Day of India through a specially curated line-up of movies on its channels Movies Now and MNX, featuring big screen heroes who save the world from dark forces. With movies such as Captain America: The First Avenger, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Valkyrie, Ben-Hur and The Dark Knight, Times Network’s English movie channels, Movies Now and MNX, bring to its viewers a strong line-up of Hollywood blockbusters.
Movies Now through its property ‘Badge of Courage’ will celebrate heroism and passion this Republic Day from 9 am to 9 pm with an array of Hollywood blockbusters, including Thor, Marvel's The Avengers and Ant-Man. Movies Now has assembled all its super heroes to ignite the spirit of nationalism among Indian audiences who in their quest to save the world from destruction, exude courage and valour symbolic of what Republic Day is all about.
Likewise, MNX lines up films where the good guys undergo hardships to emerge triumphant in the end. Valkyrie (overcoming Nazi rule), London has Fallen (fighting terrorism), Ben-Hur (reclaiming lost honour) and The Lone Ranger (capturing rogue outlaws) are a few.
MTV Beats
MTV Beats is set to hit the patriotic notes with ‘Beats of India’. The channel will be playing a song every hour as a part of Beats of India to intensify the patriotic vibes. From the inspiring Vande Mataram by AR Rahman to the energetic Rang De Basanti and from Chak de India to Aisa Desh Hai Mera, these songs are sure to emphasise on the importance of freedom and evoke your love for India with some of the most nationalistic Indian songs. Beats of India will be played from 8-11 am and 5-7 pm.
Nickelodeon
Given that January 26 marks the day when the Constitution of India came into effect, Nickelodeon takes upon the mission of educating kids and bringing in awareness about the importance of Republic Day through its campaign #BeRepublic. The campaign saw fun videos that captured quick facts about Republic day and enlightened children about the rich heritage of our country, importance of parade, etc. The session was supported by fun gifs and informative posts on social media. The celebrations continued when Nicktoons took charge of the classroom and converted it to a fun-filled yet informative session at schools across various cities. The toons through various placards enlightened children on quirky unknown facts about our constitution making syllabus for the day fun and memorable.
Star World
Star World has lined up a marathon of a show that is not only entertaining but also takes a satirical view into what goes on behind the scenes in government policy-making and legislations! With 188 nominations and 56 awards, Veep, starring multi-award winning actress Julia Louis Dreyfus, will air on January 26 from 11 am onwards.
Following the life of Selena Meyer, a self-obsessed and vapid vice-president, the show trails her journey as she tries to prevent various political uproars and juggles her public as well as private life. Veep’s ensemble cast also includes other actors who have all been nominated for their extraordinary acting talent, including an endearing Anna Chlumsky, a meek Tony Hale and a hapless Matt Walsh.
Zee Action and &Pictures
Zee Action has planned to telecast Commando – A One Man Army, a popular action film directed by Dilip Ghosh. With the super suave Vidyut Jamwal (Karanveer Singh Dogra) in lead role along with Pooja Chopra (Simrit), the movie will air under Friday Ki Night at 8 pm.
With the brand philosophy Sapnon Ki Udaan, &pictures will air the Republic Day premiere of Poorna, an inspirational film, on Friday at 11 am. The channel has curated the Sapnon Ki Udaan digital series showcasing short stories of real-life heroes wherein Rahul Bose and Poorna meet several women across the nation who have similar inspirational stories.
