Equipped with a dual Masters in Business and a specialisation in International Business coupled with a Mechanical Engineering degree, Kuber Chopra has tried to ensure that he does not have to go to the class room again. Not saying that he is against the idea, but the focus now has moved to apply all the academic learning and assimilate more about the very real and competitive business environment.

Post his Business Studies, he has had the opportunity to work with rather diverse companies that are pioneers in their respective industries. Straight out of B-School, he joined Satyam Computer Services and was supporting the bid management profile for a fast growing Software Testing practice. Apart from significant exposure to B2B Marketing, he learnt some very important lessons during his stint as it coincided with the unfortunate fraud.

Chopra says, “It is very rare that one gets such learning so early in one's career. To understand that designation and profiles are not always synonymous with responsibility, was the greatest education as Mahindra took over Satyam and a resurrection began.”

However, he decided to move on looking for opportunities exciting the left of my centre. In a period of economic consolidation where jobs weren't aplenty his immediate goal to switch to a core marketing role in a B2C environment seemed unlikely. However, staying positive he pursued his other interests such as films by making a little documentary and finding interesting projects in the Business of sport in India. Link Consultancy an Indo-Italian Sports marketing firm promoted Winter Sports in India. They gave him an opportunity to do a few short interesting projects with them. Taking forward tremendous learning and academic experience from India and UK.

He then applied for his present role in Virgin Mobile's BTL marketing team. Having been selected he has hit the ground running in a fiercely competitive telecom market. However, he believes that telecom marketing and that too with a global brand like Virgin Mobile is influencing his outlook greatly in today's time.

Marketing in India is tough. One is always competing for eyeballs with other established global and local brands, but shining through that clutter and gaining consideration is still not enough, opines Kuber.

“I strongly believe that the Marketing strategy of great brands has a sales orientation without being crass. The industry presents numerous opportunities for entrepreneurial minds. As clichéd as it might sound, a young population and growing economy present these opportunities. However, going after them will take innovative thinking and courage at both strategic and tactical level. Looking forward to the ride.”
