Lokmat Media has produced a film that tackles the very serious issue of social importance – the rise of anger, social disharmony and intolerance. The film titled ‘Perspective’ has been directed by the young and talented Adinath Kothare.

The short film opens in a residential locality with a typical Mumbai backdrop. The film portrays two communities and the harmony between them. While one community is seen celebrating a festival, a funeral procession from the members of the other community is passing by, from the other side of the road. The atmosphere develops in such a way that a fight will soon erupt between the two groups. Suddenly, one of the groups stops and lets the other pass by. A TV reporter and her cameraperson are the observers of the whole situation.

Rishi Darda, Joint Managing and Editorial Director, Lokmat Media, said, “We live in times that are fractured, in a society that is torn between violence, fear anguish and mistrust. We look upon each other as ‘you’ rather than ‘us’ and ‘others’ than ‘we’. We have reached a point where something needs to be done and therefore Lokmat, with the creative articulation of Kothare and with Independence Day here, we tried to give a voice and state what is beyond anything else – just embracing humanity above all with a short film – Perspective.”

Kothare added, “This is a film that raises very fundamental and critical question without saying a word. It makes us ask them too. It makes us ask, for instance, who strokes the fire, who wants us to be torn apart, who wants us to think of each other as enemies instead of countrymen? It is a film that pushes us to take responsibility for the way in which ‘we’ view the world. A battlefield, or a brotherhood, it’s all a matter of Perspective.”

The film has become the Official Selection for the 15th Indian Film Festival in Stuttgart and the 18th New York Indian Film Festival, the Best Film on Religion and the Best Silent Film at the Calcutta International Cult Film Festival, the Official Selection for the eighth Dadashaheb Phalke Film Festival, in addition to many more.

Darda said, “Perspective is perhaps one of the most important pieces of viewing for our times. At Lokmat Media it is our intent that we take it to as many eyes as we can.”
