Dainik Jagran announces its first list of Hindi Bestsellers

Dainik Jagran has announced its first list of Hindi Bestsellers at an event attended by publishers, authors and other prominent personalities from Hindi literature, culture and media fields. The Dainik Jagran Hindi Bestsellers list has three categories – fiction, non-fiction and translations.

The Hindi Bestsellers list for Q1 April-June 2017 was released. The comprehensive list not only includes popular Hindi writers and books but some popular English authors too who have made it to the hearts of the Hindi readers, as seen in the translation category.

The list has been prepared after data collection and analysis from stores across 39 Hindi-speaking cities of the country. This data has been merged with the Nielsen BookScan Panel, which collects data from more than 40 retailer groups that includes major book and merchandise retail chains and online stores.

January 1, 2011, was the cut-off date, and only those books were included whose first edition was published after this date.

Commenting on Dainik Jagran Hindi Bestseller (April-June 2017), Basant Rathore, Senior Vice-President, Jagran Prakashan Group, said, “While the Bestseller study is the cornerstone of this project, our real intent is to create a vibrant platform where authors, books and literary works are discussed and become part of the mainstream conversation, which is so essential for the publishing industry to thrive. And this will not start and end with just a Bestseller study published every quarter. There will be several other allied initiatives, which will propel our ‘Hindi Hain Hum’ movement.”

Sanjay Gupta, CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jagran Prakashan, said, “It’s important to honour literature in order to honour the language itself. We joined hands with Nielsen in order to bring a transparent and a credible list based on a proven international methodology.”

Vikrant Mathur, Director, Nielsen Books India and Asia Pacific, said, “We have worked in many languages across the globe. Hindi is the fourth largest language in the world and spoken by 40 per cent of Indians. To further add to the Neilsen Bookscan panel and customise the study, we’ve included a field survey across bookstores in 39 Hindi-speaking cities.”

Dainik Jagran Hindi Bestseller is the first initiative of its kind in the Hindi publishing arena. Earlier there was no transparent and credible means to accurately assess the popularity of Hindi books. Dainik Jagran Hindi Bestsellers list will be released quarterly.

Books that have made to the top 10 of Dainik Jagran Nielsen Bookscan Hindi bestseller (April-June 2017) are:
