Comedy Central, India’s leading 24-hour English Entertainment channel, is all set to launch two new local properties this winter. To begin with, the channel will be adding Comedy Central twist to the famous Cyrus Brocha show- The week that wasn’t which will be called ‘The Other Week that Wasn’t’ on Comedy Central. Premiering on November 16, the show will be telecast every Sunday for 11 weeks.
Comedy Central’s another local offering is a fresh new show by stand-up comedian Kenneth Sebastian, ‘The Living Room’.
Commenting on the new line up, Ferzad Palia, Executive Vice President and Business Head, English entertainment, Viacom 18, said, “With the burgeoning stand-up Comedy scene in India we were clearly able to identify a growing appetite for homemade comedy & with the introduction of the two new shows Comedy Central aims to cater to this emergent demand. India is at the helm of a humor renaissance today and keeping in mind the evolving tastes of our viewers, we are also adapting to cater to their preferences.”
Palia told BestMediaInfo.com that these two local shows will help Comedy Central expand its viewership base while retaining the international comedy lovers through a mix of local and international programming. “Advertisers have shown immense confidence in our shows from the beginning and the kind of response we have received from both advertisers and brands for these two new shows, we are sure we will come up with more locally produced shows in future”, added Palia.
‘The OTHER Week That Wasn’t’ will have Cyrus’ tongue-in-cheek spoofs and mouthful of puns mulling over fashion, entertainment & sports.
The Living Room is India’s first English improve sketch comedy show. The show centres around Kenneth Sebastian and his friends. These friends include the hilarious Kanan Gill, Kaneez, Abish Matthew, Naveen Richards, etc. The show has no scripts, no retakes, it is 100% improvised!
Kenneth Sebastian, the next door stand-up comedian from Bangalore, has his plate full of wits and jokes, served with a pinch of sarcasm and wry, lined up for the audience. The guy from the silicon valley of India is no novice in the comedy scene, as he has been presenting since the age of 19, and has over a hundred stand-up jig shows up his collar.
