Wakefit.co study says marketeers struggle with sleep as they work from home during lockdown
The pan-India study, to analyse people’s lifestyle and sleeping patterns during lockdown in India, finds that 41% marketing professionals have been going to bed only after midnight, while 44% get less than six hours of sleep

Wakefit.co, a research and innovation-driven sleep solutions company, conducted a survey of more than 1,500 respondents across the country to analyse people’s lifestyle and sleeping patterns during the lockdown in India. The survey found that ‘Work from home’ during the lockdown period is wreaking havoc with sleep, especially among the musketeers of marketing.

While the lockdown has changed lifestyles across the world, it seems to have impacted marketeers rather severely, with 41% going to bed post-midnight, as opposed to 27% in the pre-lockdown period. Further, a significant 44% said that they get less than six hours of sleep at night, as opposed to 26% before the lockdown, according to the survey that had 125 marketing professionals among the 1,500 respondents.
Ever since India announced its lockdown starting March 25, Wakefit.co has been auditing the changes in patterns and quality of sleep and the associated impact on life itself, across the country. The ‘Work from Home’ study has participants from Bengaluru, Delhi/NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and other Indian cities, with 55% respondents in the 26-35 years age group and 20% in the 36-45 years age bracket.
Chaitanya Ramalingegowda, Co-founder and Director, Wakefit.co, said, “While working from home cuts down on travel time and would be a perk in normal circumstances, the Covid-19 pandemic has adversely affected people’s quality of sleep. Our survey finds that marketing professionals are finding it hard to tackle the work pressures of creating business opportunities in the grim market scenario. Not to forget the growing anxieties related to job security, managing finances and wellbeing of family and friends.”
According to the Wakefit.co study, 57% marketeers are up at night worrying about their jobs, finances and family’s health, while 59% admit feeling sleepier during work hours! Interestingly, the study finds that 72% marketeers tend to work from their beds while at home.
One of the most effective ways to improve sleep, experts concur, is to maintain the sanctity of the sleep space. Using the bed as a workstation can adversely impact sleep patterns. As a consequence, physical and mental health suffer. And so, does productivity at work.
“Sleep is not just an immunity booster, but also an essential function to help the body and mind respond optimally to any challenging situations. This survey provides us with actionable insights to strengthen our response to the current crises,” noted Chaitanya.
