Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is being trolled on social media for sharing an ad featuring actor Akshay Kumar that promotes using cars with six airbags. Many alleged that the advertisement is promoting the practice of dowry.
While the intention of the ad is to promote road safety, the narrative used has made the minister and actor draw flak from the social media police.
In the ad, a father is seen crying at his daughter’s farewell after the wedding. Akshay Kumar, in the role of a cop, taunts the father for sending the newly married daughter in a car that has just two airbags. The father responds by boasting various features and the latest technology used in the car. To which then Kumar tells him about the importance of six airbags in a car.
Member of Rajya Sabha and Deputy Leader of Shiv Sena, Priyanka Chaturvedi posted on Twitter asking whether the government was spending money to promote vehicular safety or the act of dowry.

Trinamool Congress National Spokesperson, Saket Gokhale, also slammed the ad and wrote on Twitter:

The advertisement was launched after Cyrus Mistry, the former chairman of Tata Sons, passed away in a car crash.
