In a first, ICC to sell media rights for men's & women's cricket separately

The International Cricket Council on Monday released the Invitation To Tender (ITT) for media rights for the next cycle of ICC events, starting in 2024. The ITT is for the Indian market only, with up to six packages available across TV only, digital-only or a combination of both.

For the first time ever, men’s and women’s rights will be sold separately, and prospective partners can bid for 16 men’s events (over eight years) and six women’s events (over four years), totalling 362* and 103* matches respectively.

The above-mentioned numbers account for ICC senior event matches only. Men’s and women’s under 19 CWC/T20WC matches will form a part of the tender but are in addition to these figures.

Men’s Package (includes ICC Men’s senior and U19 events)

Three packages are available:

  • TV (4/8 years)
  • Digital (4/8 years)
  • TV and Digital combined (4/8 years)

Bids must be submitted for a four-year term, but bidders can also optionally bid for an 8-year term as well.

Women’s Package (includes ICC Women’s senior and U19 events)

Three packages are available

  • TV (4 years)
  • Digital (4 years)
  • TV and Digital combined (4 years)

Bids must be submitted for a four-year term.

The interested parties need to email iccmediarights2024-2031@icc-cricket.com to access the tender documents.

A decision will be made by the ICC Board in September 2022. The ITTs for additional markets will be released following that.

The process:

  • Sealed bids are being invited for the media rights for ICC events for the next cycle to motivate prospective bidders to submit their best bid for the events and package they want.
  • Bidders will also be able to present their vision for cricket to the ICC, particularly for the Women’s Package.
  • Sealed bids will be submitted to the ICC on August 22, 2022, and opened in a controlled fashion with independent oversight following presentations.
  • The ICC Board will approve the successful bid(s).
  • The successful bidders will be announced by early September.

Geoff Allardice, ICC Chief Executive, said, “International cricket consistently attracts huge audiences and that is driving significant interest from broadcasters for ICC events. We have more than one billion fans that passionately follow the game globally, and they will be looking forward to seeing the best players in the world competing for cricket’s most prestigious trophies.”

He further said, “There has been significant growth in interest in women’s cricket over the last five years and we have made a long-term strategic commitment to accelerate that growth and unbundling the rights for our women’s events will play a huge role in that. We are looking for a broadcast partner who is excited by the role they will play in growing the women’s game and ensuring more fans than ever before can enjoy it.”
