Reacting sharply on blocking access of Indian newspapers and media websites by Chinese government, Indian Newspaper Society (INS) and Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) have asked Government of India to ban all the news apps/platforms in India invested by China/ Chinese investors to ensure biased information shouldn’t reach Indian users

A day after the central government banned TikTok, a popular short video-sharing platform, and 58 other Chinese mobile apps in the country citing security reasons, China restricted the access of Indian newspapers and websites.

INS President Shailesh Gupta said that the action of the Chinese government to restrict access of Indian newspapers and media websites is uncalled for and even the access through VPN (Virtual Private Network) server has been blocked by creating a technologically advanced firewall.

Gupta urged the Government of India to expeditiously take steps to ban all kinds of access to Chinese media in Indian and call off collaborations/investments made by Chinese in Indian media companies forthwith.

DNPA, which is the body consisting of top media publishers, also urged the government to look into this seriously, and extend the ban to all the news apps/platforms invested by china or Chinese investors.

Pawan Agarwal, Chairman, DNPA, said this is the time, that we should consider upholding India’s security, sovereignty as the utmost priority.
