Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on May 12 at 8 pm to announce an economic stimulus of Rs 20 lakh crore also provided a boost to national Hindi news channels as they held their viewership, which was witnessing a decline for the past few weeks. The national Hindi news channels garnered 1,836 million Impressions in Week 19, almost the same as Week 18 (HSM: NCCS All: 15+).

Aaj Tak claimed the lion’s share of viewership of the PM’s speech yet again with almost double that of the next channel. Aaj Tak garnered 11.9 million Impressions followed by ABP news with 6 million Impressions at No. 2. Aaj Tak had recorded over 13 million Impressions for the PM’s speech on April 14 at 10-10.30 am while APB News had garnered 7.6 million Impressions.

Republic Bharat fetched 5.7 million (4.7 mn on April 14) followed by Zee News with 5.4 million (6.3 mn on April 14) and India TV with 5.3 million (5.6 mn on April 14) Impressions, respectively, during the PM’s speech on May 12.

News18 India and TV9 Bharatvarsh recorded 2.2 million (2.4 mn on April 14) and 2.1 million impressions, respectively.

When it comes to the overall performance of the national Hindi news channels in Week 19, Aaj Tak remained the No. 1 Hindi news channel and grew by 7%. India TV too grew by 7% and jumped two positions to No. 2. Zee News was at No. 3 with 3% growth in its viewership.

Republic Bharat’s viewership declined by 7% as it slipped two positions to No. 4 in Week 19. ABP News slipped two positions to No. 5.

TV9 Bharatvarsh and News18 India at No. 6 and No. 7 witnessed a drop in viewership by 3% each.
