Doordarshan goes global on 60th anniversary, to be shown in South Korea

Doordarshan, India’s national broadcaster, got a global platform in partnership with a Korean OTT platform, Shashi Shekhar Vempati, CEO, Prasar Bharati, has announced.

DD India will be broadcast in South Korea through MyK, the OTT platform of Korean Broadcasting System (KBS).

Doordarshan, which began as an experiment on September 15, 1959, and became a service in 1965, turned 60 last Sunday.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, who was also present on the occasion, compared Doordarshan with international news channels such as BBC and CNN and said DD India will soon be visible all over the world.

He talked about the distribution pattern of Doordarshan and how it was successful in connecting millions across the nation. “Korean TV will broadcast on Doordarshan Free Dish and DD India will be available on the Korean Government’s broadcast platform. This is a mutual understanding and cooperation. Similar talks are being carried out with the Bangladesh Government too,” Javadekar said.

After the speech, Javadekar released a postal stamp on Doordarshan.

Director General of Doordarshan, Supriya Sahu, took to social media platform (Twitter) to show how Doordarshan changed its marketing strategy by adopting more technological content to attract the young audience.
